  1. 6. Regulation of adenovirus alternative pre-mRNA splicing : Functional characterization of exonic and intronic splicing enhancer elements

    Author : Bai-Gong Yue; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; adenovirus; pre-mRNA splicing; splicing enhancer; MLTU; L1; SR protein; ASF SF2; E. coli; phosphorylation; dephosphorylation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Pre-mRNA splicing and alternative pre-mRNA splicing are key regulatory steps controlling geneexpression in higher eukaryotes. The work in this thesis was focused on a characterization of thesignificance of exonic and intronic splicing enhancer elements for pre-mRNA splicing. READ MORE

  2. 7. Adenovirus-mediated Gene Therapy of Prostate Cancer

    Author : Angelika Danielsson; Mangus Essand; Thomas H. Tötterman; Gunnel Hallden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : adenovirus; adenoviral vector; oncolytic virus; gene therapy; prostate cancer; PEGylation; HDAC inhibitor; whole blood model; whole blood neutralization assay; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Adenovirus-mediated gene therapy is a potential complement to standard cancer treatments. Advantages are that vectors can be used to target tumors and that replicating viruses lead to increased therapeutic dosage. READ MORE

  3. 8. Virion- and VAP-receptor recognition in the human adenovirus type 2 system

    Author : Eduardo Rodriguez; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; T7pol-M13; adenovirus fiber shaft fragment; receptor recirculation; lysosomotropic agents; Adenovirus; HeLa cells; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the early steps of a complex virus-cell interaction. The human adenovirus type 2 (HAdV-2) infects permissive cells, by first recognizing a protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that serves as the Coxsackie and adenovirus receptor (CAR). This attachment step is mediated by the adenovirus fiber protein. READ MORE

  4. 9. Adenovirus-host interactions : implications for tropism and therapy

    Author : Annasara Lenman; Niklas Arnberg; Lennart Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adenoviridae; Amino Acids; Antiviral Agents; Epithelial Cells; Factor IX;

    Abstract : Human adenoviruses (HAdVs) are common viruses often associated withgastrointestinal, ocular and respiratory infections. They can infect a widevariety of cells, both dividing and non-dividing. HAdVs attach to and infecttarget cells through interactions with cellular receptors. READ MORE

  5. 10. Adenovirus species B: receptors, tropism and hematopoietic cells

    Author : Anna Segerman; Göran Wadell; Ya-Fang Mei; Urs Greber; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : At present, the human adenoviruses (Ads) comprise 51 members, which have been classified into six species (A to F). In general, adenovirus (Ad) tissue tropism or disease patterns vary according to species, although adenoviruses from different species can sometimes cause the same symptoms. READ MORE
