  1. 6. Platelet adhesion and P-selectin surface expression

    Author : Per A. Whiss; Nils Olav Solum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : divalent cations; ELISA; nicotine; nitric oxide; platelet adhesion; P-selectin; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Upon injury in a blood vessel, platelets become activated and adbere to prevent blood loss. Activated platelets express adhesion molecules on their surface that also make leukocytes adhere to the injury. One such molecule, which also is expressed on endothelium, is the glycoprotein P-selectin. READ MORE

  2. 7. Infection biology of the plant pathogenic fungus Bipolaris sorokiniana

    Author : Dace Apoga; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microscopy; Hordeum vulgare; barley; virulence; prehelminthosporol; phytotoxins; proteins; adhesion; fimbriae; extracellular matrix; Helminthosporium sativum; Cochliobolus sativus; Plant pathogenic fungi; Bipolaris sorokiniana; two-dimensional gel electrophoresis; mass spectrometry; gas chromatography; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Bipolaris sorokiniana is a fungal pathogen causing severe disease mainly in wheat and barley worldwide. In this thesis two aspects of the infection process were investigated: the adhesion mechanism of the fungus and the role of the non-host specific phytotoxin prehelminthosporol (PHL) in the disease. Adhesion of B. READ MORE

  3. 8. On CXC Chemokines in Endotoxin-Induced Liver Injury

    Author : Xiang Li; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; Surgery; patologisk anatomi; Patologi allmän ; pathological anatomy; General pathology; intravital microscopy; liver damage; Adhesion; CXC chemokines;

    Abstract : Leukocyte recruitment is a rate-limiting step in endotoxemic liver injury. Leukocyte extravasation is a multistep process, supported by multiple combinations of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors. This thesis examined the mechanisms of activation, adhesion and extravascular infiltration of leukocytes in endotoxin-induced liver injury. READ MORE

  4. 9. Helicobacter spp. – host interaction in the mucus niche

    Author : Médea Padra; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Helicobacter; mucin; glycosylation; adhesion;

    Abstract : Helicobacter pylori is the most common human gastric pathogen, colonizing half of the world's population. Helicobacter suis colonizes the stomach of 60-95% of pigs at slaughter age and it is the most prevalent non-Helicobacter pylori Helicobacter species found in the human stomach causing severe gastric disorders. 5. 10. Studies of SIRPα-mediated regulation of neutrophil functions

    Author : Åsa Stenberg; Janove Sehlin; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; SIRPα; inflammation; adhesion; chemotaxis; apoptosis;

    Abstract : Neutrophil granulocytes constitute the front line of defense in the innate immune response to invading microorganisms, but can also contribute to development of inflammatory disease and tissue destruction following e.g. myocardial infarction or stroke. READ MORE
