  1. 1. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors

    Author : Elham Barazeghi; Gunnar Westin; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Christofer Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; 5hmC; TET1; TET2; parathyroid tumors; SI-NET; RRBS; PTPRM;

    Abstract : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs). 2. 2. Drug Repositioning for Cancer Treatment : Novel Candidate Identification Strategies

    Author : Madiha Nazir; Mårten Fryknäs; Sigurd Vitols; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : cancer treatment; drug repositioning; Phosphodiesterase 3A PDE3A ; apoptosis; combination screening;

    Abstract : Regardless of the enormous investments in cancer research and drug development, the proportion of approved drugs in oncology is low compared to other indications, and new avenues are needed. One attractive approach in this regard is drug repositioning where new uses outside the scope of the original medical indications for existing drugs are identified. READ MORE

  3. 3. Biomaterials for Promoting Self-Healing of Bone Tissue

    Author : Sonya Piskounova; Jöns Hilborn; Tim Bowden; Simon Cool; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osseointegration; implant coating; hyaluronan hydrogel; bone morphogenetic protein-2; hydroxyapatite; bone; delivery system; injectable; mixing; radioactive labeling; Kemi med inriktning mot polymerkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Polymer Chemistry;

    Abstract : The present work addresses poor bone/implant integration and severe bone defects. In both conditions external stimuli is required for new bone to form. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lactobacillus in semi-hard cheese and their use as adjunct cultures

    Author : Martin Antonsson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Livsmedelsteknik; Food and drink technology; Adjunct culture; NSLAB; Non-starter Lactic acid bacteria; Cheese ripening; Model cheese; Lactobacillus paracasei; Cheese; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The microflora of Herrgård cheese produced at three dairies was compared after three and six months maturation. The microflora of cheeses from two of the dairies was dominated by a spontaneous microflora of Lactobacillus after three months of ripening, while starter bacteria still dominated in cheese from the third dairy after six months. 5. 5. Prediction of embryo viability by morphology and metabolomic profiling

    Author : Aisling Ahlström; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NIR spectroscopy; morphology; blastocyst; IVF; trophectoderm; live birth; metabolomic; embryo;

    Abstract : Abstract The ultimate challenge for all in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics is to develop the ability to select for transfer the best single embryo first, from the patient’s cohort of embryos, thereby maximising the chance of pregnancy while the incidence of multiple pregnancies is kept to a minimum and fewer transfer cycles are required. This ambition has driven extensive research and development into methods that can be used to predict embryo viability. READ MORE
