1. Relating the Bulk and Interface Structure of Hyaluronan to Physical Properties of Future Biomaterials
Abstract : This dissertation describes a structural investigation of hyaluronan (HA) with neutron scattering techniques. HA is a natural biopolymer and one of the major components of the extracellular matrix, synovial fluid, and vitreous humor. READ MORE

2. A Structural Viewpoint of Magnetism in Fe and Co Based Superlattices
Abstract : In order to understand the properties of thin film devices, knowledge of the material's structure is essential. The work presented here combines magnetic and structural characterization of the systems studied to gain a deeper physical understanding. READ MORE

3. Adsorption and Ordering of Surface Active Molecules and Particles at Solid Interfaces and in the Bulk
Abstract : Factors that influence the process of adsorption and order of dilute and concentrated systems of molecules and particles are explored in this thesis. The results are based largely on neutron scattering techniques. READ MORE

4. Structure formation at solid/liquid interfaces : Understanding self-assembly and environmental challenges
Abstract : The work described in the present dissertation has explored the structure of particles and molecules at solid/liquid interfaces, aiming to understand the physics of self-organizing systems and use this knowledge to address some environmental issues. Surface-sensitive neutron scattering techniques, such as reflectometry and grazing incidence small angle scattering, have been used as the primary tool to investigate structures in proximity to an interface. 5. Flow of Colloidal Mesophases
Abstract : This dissertation presents new work and results in the flow of complex fluids and experimental methodologies for their investigation. Plate-like colloidal particles of kaolinite and nickel hydroxide are studied. A study of lamellar fragments and their mixture with the nickel hydroxide particles is also presented. READ MORE
