  1. 1. Studies on the pathophysiology and treatment of adult respiratory distress syndrome : an investigation in pigs

    Author : Tommy Borg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  2. 2. Computer simulation - a tool for optimisation of ventilator setting in critical lung disease

    Author : Leif Uttman; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult · Swine; Computer Simulation ·Artificial Respiration ·Pulmonary Gas Exchange · Respiratory Dead Space · Respiratory Mechanics · Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Increasing attention is paid to mechanical ventilation as one cause behind aggravation of lung injury. Lung protective ventilation can be achieved e.g. by minimising tidal lung collapse and re-expansion and by the use of small tidal volume allowing some degree of permissive hypercapnia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pulmonary function, ventilation/perfusion relationships and aerosol therapy in early adult respiratory distress syndrome : experimental studies in the pig

    Author : Pelle Forsgren; Uppsala universitet; []

  4. 4. Advanced radiological imaging in patients treated with Extracorporeal Memebrane Oxygenation

    Author : Marika Lidegran; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ECMO; computed tomography; magnetic resonance imaging; acute respiratory distress syndrome; thorax; abdomen; intracranial hemorrhage; cerebral infarction; follow-up;

    Abstract : Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is the use of a modified heart-lung machine to support life during severe acute cardiac and/or respiratory failure. Patients on ECMO are at high risk for complications due to the severe underlying disease and to the ECMO procedure itself. READ MORE

  5. 5. Acute lung injury : incidence and predictors of outcome with special reference to inhaled nitric oxide

    Author : Owe Luhr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Respiratory distress syndrome; Adult; -drug-therapy; -mortality; Treatment; -outcome; Nitric oxide; therapeutic-use; administration-and-dosage; -adverse effects; Mutagenicity; tests; Chromosome aberrations; Risk factors; Logistic models; Prospective studies.;

    Abstract : This work started out as a critical examination of the initial clinical experiences with inhalation of nitric oxide (INO) to patients with acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in Scandinavia 1991-1994. During this examination, we found that epidemiological data and prognostic factors were lacking in Scandinavia for these patient groups, making it difficult to evaluate new therapies. READ MORE
