  1. 1. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix

    Author : Anna Lewin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme A synthesis; heme A; heme A synthase; CtaA; cCtaA; cytochrome a; Aeropyrum pernix; Bacillus subtilis;

    Abstract : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. READ MORE

  2. 2. Membrane Induced Structure in Transmembrane Signaling Proteins and Peptides : Peptide–Lipid Interactions Studied by Spectroscopic Methods

    Author : Sofia E. Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Jason Schnell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; paddle domain; voltage gating; voltage sensor domain; micelle; phospholipid bicelle; solution structure; HAMP domain; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; nonspecific interaction; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Biological membranes, defining the boundary of cells and eukaryotic organelles, are mainly composed of lipids and membrane proteins. Interactions between these lipids and proteins are needed to preserve the tight seal of the membrane, but also to induce structure for proper function in many membrane proteins. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structure determination, thermal stability and catalytic mechanism of hyperthermostable isocitrate dehydrogenases

    Author : Mikael Karlström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : X-ray crystallography; isocitrate dehydrogenase; thermostability; catalytic mechanism;

    Abstract : In this thesis, studies on the enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) from the hyperthermophiles Aeropyrum pernix (ApIDH), Thermotoga maritima (TmIDH), Archaeoglobus fulgidus (AfIDH) and Pyrococcus furiosus (PfIDH) are presented. The aim of the described work was to contribute to the understanding of protein thermostability and to study the catalytic mechanism. READ MORE
