  1. 6. Primary Marine Aerosol : Validation of sea spray source functions using observations and transport modeling

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Krejci Radovan; Bo Gustafsson; Lars Ahlm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Sea spray aerosols (SSA) are an important part of the climate system through their effects on the global radiative budget, both directly as scatterers and absorbers of solar and terrestrial radiation, and indirectly as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) influencing cloud formation, lifetime and precipitation. In terms of their global mass, SSA is the largest source and has the largest uncertainty of all aerosols. READ MORE

  2. 7. The high Arctic summer aerosol : Size, chemical composition, morphology and evolution over the pack-ice

    Author : Evelyne Hamacher-Barth; Caroline Leck; Stephan Weinbruch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; aerosol; marine gel; electron microscopy; EDX-spectroscopy; chemical composition; morphology; size distribution; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles, especially in the high Arctic are still not very well represented in climate models. Particle size and number concentrations are strongly under-predicted and temporal variations of aerosol composition and size are still not very well understood, mainly due to the sparsity of observations. 3. 8. Mechanisms for the Influence from Ice Nucleus Aerosols on Clouds and their Indirect Effects: Cloud Modelling

    Author : Deepak Waman; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; Radiation; Ice Nuclei; Primary Biological Aerosol Particles; Ice particles; Secondary ice; primary ice; Aerosol particles; thunderstorm;

    Abstract : The role of multiple groups of primary biological aerosol particles (PBAPs) as ice nucleating particles (INPs), and of ice formation processes such as time-dependent freezing of various INPs, and various secondary ice production(SIP) mechanisms in overall ice concentration has been evaluated in a range of cloud systems by simulating them numerically with the state-of-the-art ‘Aerosol-Cloud’ (AC) model in a 3D mesoscale domain. Also, the mechanismsof aerosol indirect effects (AIEs) arising from anthropogenic INPs, and the responses to these AIEs from time-dependent INP freezing and SIP processes are investigated in the simulated clouds. 4. 9. Towards sustainable heavy-duty transportation : Combustion and emissions using renewable fuels in a compression ignition engine

    Author : Maja Novakovic; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RME; HVO; E85; methanol; ethanol; decarbonization; defossilization; heavy-duty; compression-ignition engine; ow temperature combustion; PPC; emissions; PM; particles; aerosol; OA; SOA; DOC;

    Abstract : Transportation should become sustainable and available to everyone. Currently, transportation accounts for approx. one sixth of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally, and heavy-duty trucks are responsible for almost 30% of that. READ MORE

  5. 10. Aerosols of Isocyanates, Amines and Anhydrides : Sampling and Analysis

    Author : Jakob Dahlin; Gunnar Skarping; Robert P. Streicher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; isocyanate; amine; aminoisocyanate; organic acid anhydride; denuder; impactor; impinger; air sampling; LC-MS; LC-CLND; di-n-butylamine; DBA; thermal degradation; aerosol; particles; TDI; MDI; HDI; ICA; MIC; IPDI; exposure; occupational health; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents methods for air sampling and determination of isocyanates, amines, aminoisocyanates and anhydrides. These organic compounds are generated during thermal degradation of polymers such as polyurethane (PUR) or epoxy.Isocyanates, amines and anhydrides are airway irritants known to cause occupational asthma.
