    Abstract : This study is a meta-analysis of the manner in which global relations impact on national level policy spaces and policy formation. As the International Financial Institutions tighten their grip through the Structural Adjustment Programmes over African countries, and donors steadily shift their ground and push conditionality beyond economic policy into institutional arrangements, the issue of political sovereignty of African countries, and of indirect rule through aid becomes a key concern.     Abstract :   Essay I: Does rural to urban migration in developing countries improve the opportunities available to children? And does childhood urban exposure increase educational attainment? Using census data for 14 African countries combined with an age-at-move design, I show that childhood exposure to cities significantly raises primary school completion, school attendance, and literacy rates. The increase in educational attainment is robust to the inclusion of household fixed effects, visible in all subgroups and countries, and particularly large for girls. READ MORE

    Abstract : Internationalisation and its components, such as curriculum internationalisation and international partnerships, have evolved over time in the context of higher education. In this thesis, such terminologies are addressed as global ideas of internationalisation because internationalisation is described as a global, intentional and inclusive concept in higher education, even though it is understood to have been pursued under coercion and contestation in Africa and elsewhere.
