  1. 16. Rheology of the mortar phase of concrete with crushed aggregate

    Author : Mikael Westerholm; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mineralteknik; Mineral Processing;

    Abstract : In Sweden, concrete has traditionally been manufactured with glaciofluvial deposits as fine aggregate. In 2004 the production of this aggregate was approximately 21 million tons. Due to environmental reasons and local shortage of this natural resource there exists a goal to reduce the production to 12 million tons in year 2010. READ MORE

  2. 17. Some Aspects of Foamed Bitumen Technology

    Author : May Namutebi; Björn Birgisson; Umaru Bagampadde; Jonas Ekblad; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Foamed bitumen; Aggregate coating; Rice density; Foam characteristics; Surface energy; Locking concept; Gyratory; Compaction; Optimum moisture content; Other civil engineering and architecture; Övrig samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : Although foamed bitumen has been widely applied in pavement construction some of its aspects are still not yet understood. In this study, some of these aspects including: effects of the foaming process on binder chemistry, characterization of foamed bitumen and development of a rational method to optimize foam characteristics, evaluation of aggregate particle coating within foamed bitumen treated materials, and development of a gyratory compaction procedure for laterite gravels treated with foamed bitumen were addressed. 3. 18. Stress response regulation and protein aggregate inheritance in Caulobacter crescentus

    Author : Frederic Dominique Schramm; Kristina Jonas; Franz Narberhaus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stress; protein aggregation; cellular aging; molecular chaperones; heat shock response; DnaK; sigma factor; suppressor genes; DNA replication; starvation; Caulobacter crescentus; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Many stress conditions a cell encounters threaten the continuation of basic biological processes ultimately endangering its survival. Heat shock and antibiotic exposure can lead to a sudden surge of protein un- and misfolding, while nutrient starvation directly causes a lack of energy and molecular building blocks. READ MORE

  4. 19. Geoelectrical imaging for interpretation of geological conditions affecting quarry operations

    Author : Mimmi K. Magnusson; Joanne Fernlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical resistivity imaging; Rock-mass quality; Aggregate production; Geophysical methods; Induced polarization; Normalized induced polarization; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Determination of the subsurface geology is very important for the rock quarry industry. This is primarily done by drilling and mapping of the surface geology. However in Sweden the bedrock is often completely covered by Quaternary sediments making the prediction of subsurface geology quite difficult. READ MORE

  5. 20. Human Metabolism and Ecological Transfer of Radioactive Caesium

    Author : Christopher Rääf; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; committed effective dose; aggregate transfer; ecological half-time; equivalent biological half-time; urianry excretion; radiocaesium; body burden; Environmental health; Miljömedicin; creatinine-normalisation; potassium-normalisation;

    Abstract : The whole-body content of radiocaesium was measured in a South-Swedish urban group of people residing in the city of Lund (55.7°N, 13.2°E) between 1960 and 1994. READ MORE
