  1. 1. Cerebral arterial pulsatility imaging using 4D flow MRI : methodological development and applications in brain aging

    Author : Tomas Vikner; Anders Wåhlin; Anders Eklund; Jan Malm; Lars Nyberg; Susanne Schnell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Magnetic resonance imaging; 4D flow MRI; medical image analysis; cerebral hemodynamics; arterial pulsatility; DCE MRI; blood-brain barrier; white matter lesions; perivascular spaces; cerebral small vessel disease; hippocampus; cognition; aging; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly recognizedas a versatile tool to assess arterial and venous hemodynamics. Cerebral arterial pulsatility is typically assessed by analyzing flow waveforms over the cardiac cycle, where flow amplitude is a function of cardiac output, central arterial stiffness, and cerebrovascular resistance and compliance. 2. 2. Neurogenic and inflammatory response in the rodent brain following stroke

    Author : Ursula Heldmann; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; Mac-1-saporin; TNF-a; Neurogenesis; Microglia; stroke; aging;

    Abstract : Stroke and in this case cerebral infarction affects 20 million people each year and five million of them die. In Sweden 30-35000 people will be affected and one of three of them will be severely disabled. In addition, one of six will suffer a new stroke within six years. READ MORE

  3. 3. Atrial fibrillation in aging; methodological aspects and the relation to dementia and cerebral vascular disease

    Author : Lina Rydén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; dementia; stroke; silent brain infarcts; white matter hyperintensity; cerebral microbleed; small vessel disease; epidemiology;

    Abstract : Emerging evidence suggest an increased risk of dementia in individuals with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, until recently, few studies have investigated the relation between AF and dementia taking both prevalent and incident stroke into account. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cardiovascular health and brain aging : a population-based MRI study

    Author : Yuanjing Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Deterioration of brain structure and cognitive function occurs as individuals reach advanced age. The former can be observed through various markers of cerebral small vessel disease on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and the later can be assessed by neuropsychological tests and clinical examinations.
