  1. 21. Neoadjuvant hormone treatment in localized prostate cancer : a clinical and histopathological study

    Author : Magnus Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Localized prostate cancer; radical prostatectomy; neo-adjuvant androgen deprivation; GnRH-agonist; histopathology; immunohistochemistry; image analysis; cancer volume; DNA ploidy patterns; PSA in serum; follow-up; prognosisStockholm 1996;

    Abstract : Surgical treatment of localized prostate cancer may be hampered by the spread of cancer through the prostate capsule and in the surgical margins. The prostate is dependent on androgen hormones for its growth and function. READ MORE

  2. 22. Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors : investigation of interactions with agonists and antagonists

    Author : Britta Hedlund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the present investigation interactions of agonists and antagonists with the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor from rat cerebral cortex and rat ileum smooth muscle have been characterized.It is suggested that the binding of antagonist involves two sequential equilibria, an association reaction followed by isomerization of the receptor-antagonist complex. 3. 23. Dopamine D2 receptor pharmacology : in vitro analyses and in vivo pet imaging

    Author : Mette Skinbjerg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The goals of the present thesis were to study high affinity agonist binding at the D2 dopamine receptor and to explore the role of agonist induced internalization of the receptor in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies. For this purpose, we combined in vitro studies of radioligand binding and receptor internalization with in vivo studies in rodents using PET. READ MORE

  4. 24. Electrophysiology-based investigations of G protein-coupled receptor pharmacology

    Author : Richard Ågren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute targets for ~34% of approved drugs. The muscarinic acetylcholine M2 receptor (M2R) activates G protein-coupled receptor inward rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels in the central nervous system and heart. Membrane potential modulates agonist potency at several GPCRs. READ MORE

  5. 25. The Role of Membrane Trafficking in G Protein-Coupled Receptor Regulation

    Author : Johan Enquist; Drug Target Discovery; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; downregulation; recycling; resensitization; desensitization; GPCR; membrane trafficking;

    Abstract : Movements of a receptor in the plasma membrane and within the cell influence receptor function and physiology. I have investigated the role of such movements, generally known as membrane trafficking, in G protein-coupled receptor regulation. READ MORE
