  1. 6. Involvement of vasopressin and oxytocin in the regulation of human uterine activity

    Author : Margareta Steinwall; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; uterine activity; oxytocin mRNA; EP2 agonist; receptors; antagonists; oxytocin; vasopressin; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi;

    Abstract : Vasopressin and oxytocin seem to have pivotal roles in the pathophysiology of primary dysmenorrhoea and preterm labour. Prostaglandins are also involved in the regulation of uterine activity with different receptors mediating both stimulation and relaxation. READ MORE

  2. 7. Medication in temporomandibular disorders and bruxism

    Author : Birgitta Johansson Cahlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; temporomandibular disorders; sleep bruxism; glucosamine sulfate; pramipexole; dopamine agonist; botulinum toxin; cerebral palsy;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to explore aspects of pharmaceutical intervention in temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and bruxism. Sleep bruxism is a movement disorder that signals disturbed sleep and constitutes a significant health problem due to TMDs, headache and tooth wear. READ MORE

  3. 8. Islet constitutive nitric oxide synthase and nitric oxide production. Modulatory effects on insulin and glucagon secretion

    Author : Björn Åkesson; Allmänmedicin och klinisk epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; mouse; carbachol; muscarinic agonist; cyclic nucleotides; calcium-fluxes; NOS-inhibitors; in vitro and in vivo; insulin and glucagon secretion; Nitric oxide NO ; constitutive nitric oxide synthase cNOS ; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the transduction signalling of insulin and glucagon release by stimulating or inhibiting islet endogenous NO-production as well as by using NO donors. Insulin release stimulated by L-arginine, the substrate for constitutive NO-synthase (cNOS)-catalyzed NO-production, was increased by the selective NOS-inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) and suppressed by the intracellular NO donor hydroxylamine. 4. 9. Morphological and Physiological Adaptations in Cichlid Crystalline Lenses

    Author : Marcus Schartau; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SKF-38393; D1-agonist; optical properties 6-hydroxydopamine; optical measurements; organ culture; dopamine; teleost; lens circulation; Lens; SCH-23390; melatonin; multifocal optical system;

    Abstract : Vertebrate eyes share a common ancestry as well as the basic design with a pupil, a retina and a lens. The lens is essential for perceiving the details in the world around us and ensures that a sharp image of the surroundings is focused onto the photoreceptors in the retina. READ MORE

  5. 10. Effects of Asthma Combination Therapy on Extracellular Matrix Remodeling in Human Lung Fibroblasts

    Author : Lizbet Todorova; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asthma; Proteoglycans; Lung fibroblasts; Collagen; Airway remodeling; TGFβ; Glucocorticoids; Combination therapy.; β2-agonist; MMPs;

    Abstract : Fibroblasts, being one of the resident and structural cells of the lung, have the capacity to produce inflammatory mediators, cytokines and extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins perpetuating the inflammation in the airways of asthmatics. Airway remodeling is also a prominent feature of asthma that affects the lung function causing a thickening of the airways. READ MORE
