  1. 1. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase and Protein Kinase B; Molecular characterization in testis, adipose tissue and pancreatic beta cells

    Author : Lena Stenson; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; signal transduction; pancreas; beta cells; adipocyte; insulin; Akt; protein kinase B; spermatogenesis; cholesterol esterase; hormone-sensitive lipase; testis; cAMP; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and protein kinase B (PKB) are enzymes that in different ways are associated with lipid metabolism. While HSL is the well-known lipolytic enzyme responsible for hydrolysis of stored triacylglycerols in adipose tissue, PKB is a recently identified serine/threonine protein kinase, ubiquitously expressed and involved in signal transduction pathways induced by insulin and growth factors. 2. 2. Mechanisms of survival and maintenance of Hematopoietic Stem Cells and Multipotent Progenitor Cells

    Author : Richard Karlsson; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; hypoxia.; forkhead; Akt PKB; Bcl-2; apoptosis; Flt3; FL; c-kit; KL; cytokines; Hematopoiesis; progenitor;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells are maintained in the bone marrow microenvironment, where factors including soluble and membrane-bound cytokines influence the processes of self-renewal, proliferation and differentiation. Two nonreduntant cytokines with effects on hematopoiesis, Kit Ligand (KL) and Flt3 Ligand (FL), signal via related tyrosine kinase receptors, c-kit and Flt3. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanisms of Integrin Signal Transduction

    Author : Anne Stefansson; Staffan Johansson; Annika Armulik; Björn Öbrink; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Integrin; Integrin signalling; PI3K; Akt PKB; Integrin transmembrane domain; cell spreading; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Integrins are a protein family of cell surface receptors, expressed in all cell types in the human body, except the red blood cells. Besides their importance in mediating physical connections with the surrounding environment, the integrin family members are also vital signalling mediators. READ MORE

  4. 4. PKB/Akt kinase localization and role in stemness maintenance in cancer

    Author : Mayur Vilas Jain; Karin Roberg; Piotr Religa; Mehrdad Rafat; Mahvash Tavassoli; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer incidence rates have increased over the last decade. Currently available therapies are only moderately effective in targeting cancer cells. Established cancer treatment protocols fail to eliminate populations of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which develop resistance against the chemotherapeutic drugs and lead to cancer recurrence. READ MORE
