1. How to reduce the exposure to anticoagulants when performing haemodialysis in patients with a bleeding risk : a study of methods used in clinical practise
Abstract : When a patient suffers from kidney failure and also has an enhanced risk of bleeding, the standard haemodialysis (HD) treatment becomes a problem. When human blood comes in contact with artificial material, as in the tubing system and in the dialyser (the extra corporeal circuit, ECC), the coagulation system is activated. READ MORE

2. Importance of renal function in cardiac surgery
Abstract : Abstract Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and serious complication after cardiothoracic surgery and is associated with increased short- and long-term mortality risk. Despite extensive studies in the field, a comprehensive understanding of this syndrome has remained elusive, partly due to divergent definitions of AKI and partly due to the limitations of available routine biomarkers to predict, prevent, and detect AKI. 3. Urinary Biomarkers and Patient Outcome in Chronic Kidney Disease and Atherosclerotic Heart Disease: The value of IgM-uria and IgG-uria
Abstract : Risk stratification of patients with chronic kidney disease and atherosclerotic heart disease is crucial. Microalbuminuria (MA) is associated with an increased risk of kidney and cardiovascular (CV) death, especially in patients with diabetes. READ MORE

4. Studies of the role of complement factor H in hemolytic uremic syndrome
Abstract : Factor H is the main fluid phase regulator of the alternative pathway of complement. Factor H acts as a co-factor for factor I-mediated C3b degradation, inhibits the formation of the C3bBb convertase and accelerates its decay. By discriminating between host and foreign cells, factor H inhibits complement-mediated injury to host cells. READ MORE

5. Studies of the pathogenesis of hemolytic uremic syndrome and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
Abstract : This study investigated the pathogenesis of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). (1) The relative roles of lipopolysaccharide and Shiga-like toxin-2 were studied in a mouse model of Escherichia coli O157:H7 infection. READ MORE
