  1. 1. Geology of Lagoa das Furnas, a crater lake on São Miguel, Azores archipelago

    Author : Thommy Andersson; Otto Hermelin; Martin Jakobsson; Alasdair Skelton; Erik Sturkell; Richard Gyllencreutz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lagoa das Furnas; Azores; crater lake; geophysical mapping; tephrochronology; volcanic dome; maringeologi; Marine Geology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the results from a geophysical mapping and coring campaign of Lagoa das Furnas are presented. Specific focus is placed on the origin of a subaqueous volcanic cone mapped in the southern part of the lake. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fluid-rock interaction in two seismically active areas : The Tjörnes Fracture Zone, northern Iceland and the Shillong Plateau, northeastern India

    Author : Lillemor Claesson; Alasdair Skelton; Steven Ingebritsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Tjörnes Fracture Zone; Shillong Plateau; Iceland; India; hydrogeochemical monitoring; earthquakes; geothermal; transition metals; dissolution; basalt; feldspar weathering; source switching; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Hydrogeochemical monitoring can improve our understanding of fluid-rock interaction, and may detect anomalies that are precursory to- or caused by- earthquakes. In this study, hydrogeochemical monitoring was carried out in two distinct tectonic settings, to study coupling between hydrogeochemical changes and seismic activity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Deformation and fluid-flow in magma-poor margins : A study of the Tasna Ocean-Continent transition, SE Switzerland

    Author : Anna Engström; Alasdair Skelton; Hemin Koyi; Gianreto Manatschal; Wolfgang Bach; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Magma-poor margins; Deformation; Fluid-flow; Serpentinization; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : In this study, interaction between fluids and deformation during the final stages of magma-poor rifting was investigated. The Tasna Ocean-Continent transition, located in the Swiss Alps, was studied and a large data set was obtained from profiles oriented perpendicular to two detachment faults. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Alnö alkaline and carbonatitic complex, east central Sweden - a petrogenetic study

    Author : Jaana Hode Vuorinen; Alasdair Skelton; Ulf Hålenius; Stefan Claesson; Ian Parsons; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; carbonatite; alkaline; Alnö; geochemistry; isotope; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The Alnö complex on the central Swedish east coast is composed of a main composite intrusion (the main intrusion) and four smaller satellite intrusions (Söråker, Sälskär, Långharsholmen and Båräng) distributed around the main intrusion on Alnö Island and on the mainland north of the island. The major rock types exposed within the complex are melilitolite, pyroxenite, ijolite series (melteigite-ijolite-urtite), nepheline syenite, carbonatite and alnöite dykes. READ MORE

  5. 5. How do fluids move through rocks? : High fluxes of CO2 in the Earth's crust

    Author : Barbara Kleine; Alasdair Skelton; Iain Pitcairn; Sandra Piazolo; Jaroslaw Majka; Zhihong Zhao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metamorphic fluid flow; blueschist preservation; fluid-rock interaction; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Metamorphic hydrous, CO2-bearing fluids play a critical role in the global carbon cycle. However, how big this influence is on the global carbon cycle and therefore on global climatic processes, is unknown. The actual amount of CO2 which is released into the atmosphere due to metamorphic processes is still debated. READ MORE
