    Abstract : Background: Compared to before the turn of the millennium, adolescents are now less likely to drink alcohol and to engage in heavy episodic drinking, both in Sweden and in many other countries. However, in societies where alcohol is consumed, alcohol-related harm is almost always present and alcohol consumption is still the leading risk factor for mortality and morbidity among 15–24-year-olds and is related to a wide range of adverse consequences.     Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to enhance knowledge about stability and predictors of change in alcohol habits among different sociodemographic subgroups, and to assess the contribution of alcohol use to social differences in alcohol-related disorders and all-cause mortality. Furthermore, as examples of exposure to stressful life events, we examine how parental separation in childhood and separation from partner in adulthood affect alcohol habits over time. READ MORE
