  1. 1. Laser cutting and piercing: Experimental and theoretical investigation

    Author : Jetro Pocorni; Alexander F. H. Kaplan; John Powell; Jan Frostevarg; William O'Neill; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laser cutting; laser piercing; efficiency; fibre laser; CO2 laser; high speed imaging; Produktionsutveckling; Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns experimental investigations of laser cutting and piercing, with theoretical and practical discussions of the results. The thesis is made up of an introduction to laser cutting and six scientific Papers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microstructural manipulation by laser irradiation of prepared samples : The ’Snapshot Method’

    Author : Stephanie Robertson; Alexander F.H. Kaplan; Fredrik Sikström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Produktionsutveckling; Manufacturing Systems Engineering;

    Abstract : Various metallurgical microstructures and their formation are studied in this thesis by using a laser beam to melt a variety of materials with different chemical compositions over a range of thermal cycles. The laser beam was used conventionally in a narrow gap multi-layer weld, used for welding large depths with filler wire additions, as well as a non-traditional simulated welding approach labelled here as the Snapshot method. 3. 3. Interaction mechanisms for a laser-induced metallic boiling front

    Author : Ramiz Saeed Matti Samarjy; Alexander F.H. Kaplan; Torbjörn Ilar; Michael Schmidt; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laser remote fusion cutting; Boiling front; High speed imaging; Additive manufacturing; Ejection; Absorption; Wavy surface; Deposition; Produktionsutveckling; Manufacturing Systems Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis is about fundamental interaction mechanisms of laser remote fusion cutting, RFC, which is based on the formation of a quasi-stationary laser-induced boiling front that causes drop ejection, preferably downwards. Laser cutting of metals, invented in 1967, has developed from a niche to a well established high quality cutting technique in the manufacturing industry. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of Heat Flow in Laser Processing of Metals

    Author : Jesper Sundqvist; Alexander F.H. Kaplan; John Powell; Andreas Otto; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Produktionsutveckling; Manufacturing Systems Engineering;

    Abstract : Since the laser was invented in 1960, its use in manufacturing industry has been growing rapidly. Laser processing of metals is based on the flow of heat that is generated by the absorbed laser beam. READ MORE
