11. Asymptotic distribution of zeros of a certain class of hypergeometric polynomials
Abstract : The thesis consists of two papers, both treating hypergeometric polynomials, and a short introduction. The main results are as follows. READ MORE

12. Topics in polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences
Abstract : This licentiate consists of two papers treating polynomial sequences defined by linear recurrences. In paper I, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the reality of all the zeros in a polynomial sequence {P_i} generated by a three-term recurrence relation P_i(x)+ Q_1(x)P_{i-1}(x) +Q_2(x) P_{i-2}(x)=0 with the standard initial conditions P_{0}(x)=1, P_{-1}(x)=0, where Q_1(x) and Q_2(x) are arbitrary real polynomials. 13. Arithmetic of three-point covers
Abstract : Any cover of the Riemann sphere with rational branch points is known to be defined over the algebraic numbers. Hence the Galois group of the rationals acts on the category of such branched covers. Particulars about this action are still scarce, even in the simplest non-abelian case, the case with just three branch points. READ MORE

14. Essays in mathematical finance : modeling the futures price
Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers dealing with the futures price process. In the first paper, we propose a two-factor futures volatility model designed for the US natural gas market, but applicable to any futures market where volatility decreases with maturity and varies with the seasons. 15. The space of Cohen–Macaulay curves and related topics
Abstract : The space of Cohen–Macaulay curves is a compactification of the space of curves that are embedded in a given projective space Pn. The idea is similar to that of the Hilbert scheme but instead of adding degenerated curves, one considers only curves without embedded or isolated points. READ MORE
