  1. 1. Algebraic Properties of Ore Extensions and Their Commutative Subrings

    Author : Johan Richter; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ore extension; Noncommutative algebra; Algebraic dependence;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with a class of rings known as Ore extensions. An Ore extension can be described as a noncommutative ring of polynomials in one variable. A special focus of the thesis is the study of commuting elements in Ore extensions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Robust preconditioning methods for algebraic problems, arising in multi-phase flow models

    Author : Xin He; Maya Neytcheva; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : The aim of the project is to construct, analyse and implement fast and reliable numerical solution methods to simulate multi-phase flow, modeled by a coupled system consisting of the time-dependent Cahn-Hilliard and incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with variable viscosity and variable density. This thesis mainly discusses the efficient solution methods for the latter equations aiming at constructing preconditioners, which are numerically and computationally efficient, and robust with respect to various problem, discretization and method parameters. 3. 3. Modelling of Kraft Cooking Kinetics Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy

    Author : Niclas Andersson; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A kinetic model describing the kraft cooking degradation reactions for softwood lignin and carbohydrates was developed in this thesis. The model satisfactorily predicted the data for modified as well as conventional cooking schemes, something which eluded earlier published models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Limit Laws, Homogenizable Structures and Their Connections

    Author : Ove Ahlman; Vera Koponen; Dugald Macpherson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model theory; random structure; finite model theory; simple theory; homogeneous structure; countably categorical; 0-1 law; Mathematical Logic; Matematisk logik; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis is in the field of mathematical logic and especially model theory. The thesis contain six papers where the common theme is the Rado graph R. Some of the interesting abstract properties of R are that it is simple, homogeneous (and thus countably categorical), has SU-rank 1 and trivial dependence. READ MORE

  5. 5. Allosteric regulation of synaptic processes

    Author : Ranjita Dutta Roy; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Abstract : Glutamatergic neurotransmission is of key importance for short-term and long-term plasticity in the hippocampus, a part of the medial temporal lobe which is responsible for processes of explicit semantic and spatial memory. Short-term plasticity is mainly regulated by the presynaptic neuron and long-term plasticity is to large parts regulated by the post-synaptic neuron. READ MORE
