  1. 1. Photochemistry of Eumelanin Precursors Role of Excited State Proton Transfer for UV Photoprotection

    Author : Alice Corani; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Time-resolved; Fluorescence spectroscopy; Excited State Proton Transfer ESPT ; Photochemistry; Eumelanin; Melanin;

    Abstract : Melanin is an epidermal pigment commonly known to give darker skin coloration under sun exposure. It is also present in the hair, eyes, inner ear and brain. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic causes and molecular mechanisms underlying rare metabolic bone diseases

    Author : Alice Costantini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The skeletal system provides support for the body, enables movement and protects inner organs. Moreover, it supplies blood cells and acts as a reservoir for minerals and fat. Several external factors, including nutrition and long-term illness, influence bone health but genetic factors also play an important role. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mimicking the action of ribonucleases : studies on RNase A and design of PNA based artificial enzymes

    Author : Alice Ghidini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A 3’-deoxy-3’-C-methylenephosphonate modified diribonucleotide is highly resistant to degradation by spleen phosphodiesterase and not cleaved at all by snake venom phosphodiesterase. Despite that both the vicinal 2-hydroxy nucleophile and the 5’-oxyanion leaving group are intact, the 3’-methylenephosponate RNA modification is also highly resistant towards the action of RNase A. 4. 4. Use of pre-treatments and substrate blending to enhance process efficiency in black soldier fly larvae composting of food industry waste

    Author : Alice Isibika; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) composting is a biowaste treatment that converts biomass into valuable animal protein and fertiliser, but low protein content and complex molecules (e.g. fibre) in substrate reduce BSFL composting efficiency. This thesis evaluated the impact of using pre-treatments and blending substrates on BSFL process efficiency. READ MORE
