  1. 1. The Corrosive Effect of Chlorine Containing Species on Waterwalls and Superheater Materials in Waste and Biomass-Fired Power Plants

    Author : Erik Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Combustion; Sulfur recirculation; Superheater corrosion; Heavy metal chlorides; Waterwalls; Alkali-induced corrosion; Biomass; Waste;

    Abstract : To increase power generation from waste- and biomass-fired boilers, it is necessary to increase the temperature and pressure of the steam generated. This implies an increase in the temperature both of the waterwalls and of the steam superheaters in the boiler. READ MORE

  2. 2. Alkali Induced High Temperature Corrosion of Stainless Steel - Experiences from Laboratory and Field

    Author : Jesper Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KCl; 304L; Biomass; Corrosion; Chlorine; Chromate; Waste; Deposit;

    Abstract : The high temperature corrosion of steam superheaters is a major obstacle that has to be overcome in order to increase the electricity generating efficiency of power boilers burning biomass or waste. This thesis addresses this issue by a combination of well-controlled model experiments in the laboratory and short and long term field exposures using cooled probes in full-scale biomass and waste fired boilers. 3. 3. High Temperature Corrosion of Some Stainless Steels

    Author : Carolina Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oxidation of stainless steel; alkali induced corrosion; KCl induced corrosion; Sanicro 28; chromate formation;

    Abstract : The high temperature corrosion of the alloy Sanicro 28 (35Fe27Cr31Ni) is addressed in this thesis. The influence of water vapour and two potassium-containing salts was investigated. In addition, three other alloys were studied. Polished steel coupons were isothermally exposed in tube furnaces at 600–800°C in 5% O2 and in 5% O2 + 40% H2O. READ MORE

  4. 4. The High Temperature Corrosion of Alloy Sanicro 28

    Author : Carolina Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alkali induced corrosion; chromate formation; Sanicro 28; oxidation of stainless steel; KCl induced corrosion;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the influence of potassium chloride in solid and gaseous form on the oxidation of alloy Sanicro 28 (35Fe27Cr31Ni). KCl induced corrosion of chromia forming alloys is important e.g. in fireside corrosion in biomass and waste fired power plants. READ MORE

  5. 5. Alkali Induced Corrosion of 304L, The Influence of Potassium Salts and Water Vapour

    Author : Jesper Pettersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 304L; Alkali; Breakaway Corrosion; KCl; Oxidation; Deposit;

    Abstract : This work investigates the influence of alkali salts on the oxidation of304-type (Fe18Cr10Ni) austenitic stainless steel in laboratory and fieldexposures. Stainless steel coupons were exposed isothermally inlaboratory furnaces at 400-600 °C in 5% O2 and 5% O2 + 40% H2O.Thermobalance exposures were also performed. READ MORE
