  1. 11. Mercerization and Enzymatic Pretreatment of Cellulose in Dissolving Pulps

    Author : Heléne Almlöf Ambjörnsson; Ulf Germgård; Thomas Nilsson; Storker Moe; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkali; carboxymethyl cellulose; cellulose I; cellulose II; cellulose dissolution; degree of substitution; enzymatic treatment; filterability; gel formation; mercerization; multivariate analytical methods; NIR FT Raman spectroscopy; sodium hydroxide; zink oxide; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the preparation of chemically and/or enzymatically modified cellulose. This modification can be either irreversible or reversible. Irreversible modification is used to prepare cellulose derivatives as end products, whereas reversible modification is used to enhance solubility in the preparation of regenerated cellulose. 2. 12. Chemical Interactions between Potassium, Nitrogen, Sulfur and Carbon Monoxide in Suspension-Fired Systems

    Author : Thomas Allgurén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sulfation; combustion; CO-oxidation; modelling; oxy-fuel; NO-formation; experiments; alkali;

    Abstract : Drastic cuts in global CO2 emissions are needed to mitigate global warming and limit the average temperature increase to well below 2ºC. The power generation sector is largely based on fossil fuels and generates a significant share of the global CO2 emissions. READ MORE

  3. 13. Shrinkage and Related Properties of Alkali-Activated Binders Based on High MgO Blast Furnace Slag

    Author : Abeer Humad; Andrzej Cwirzen; John L. Provis; Karin Habermehl-Cwirzen; Andrzej Garbacz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Alkali-activated slag; alkali-activated materials; high-MgO blast furnace slag; shrinkage; creep; carbonation; strength; heat curing; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : Concrete is the second most used material in the world just after water. A drawback is that it is mostly based on Portland cement, which has an extremely high carbon footprint reaching a staggering 900 kg/tonne. The carbon dioxide emissions related to the production of the Portland cement accounts for nearly 8 % of the global total. READ MORE

  4. 14. Electronic and Geometric Structure of Phthalocyanines on Metals

    Author : Masumeh-Nina Shariati; Maria Novella Piancastelli; Carla Puglia; Kajsa Uvdal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monolayer; multilayer; metal-free phthalocyanine; metal phthalocyanine; interaction; intermolecular; adsorbate-substrate; XPS; XAS; STM; DFT; alkali; metallization;

    Abstract : Adsorption of monolayers and multilayers of metal-free and metal phthalocyanines molecules on metal surfaces has been investigated using complementary microscopic and synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques. It was observed by STM measurements that at monolayer coverage the adsorption direction of the metal-free phthalocyanine molecules with respect to the gold surface vary as a function of temperature, i. 5. 15. Superheater corrosion in biomass and waste fired boilers : Characterisation, causes and prevention of chlorine-induced corrosion

    Author : Peter Viklund; Christofer Leygraf; John Nicholls; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high temperature corrosion; waste; biomass; superheater tubes; steel; alkali; chlorine; sulphur;

    Abstract : Biomass and waste fired boilers suffer severely from corrosion of critical components such as superheater tubes. In this work high temperature corrosion of superheater alloys, and methods to mitigate the problem, have been investigated by laboratory studies and controlled field exposures in commercial boilers.
