  1. 1. Dendritic cells in cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Karin Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : vaccines; dendritic cells; αDC1; PGE2DC; natural killer cells; T cells;

    Abstract : Dendritic cells (DCs) play a central role in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses and have increasingly been applied as vaccines for cancer patients. Ex vivo generation and antigen loading of monocyte-derived DCs allows a controlled maturation, with the aim of imprinting different DC functions that are essential for their subsequent induction of a T cell-mediated anti-tumor response. 2. 2. Allogeneic dendritic cells as adjuvants in cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Grammatiki Fotaki; Magnus Essand; Alex Karlsson-Parra; Di Yu; Tanja de Gruijl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allogeneic dendritic cells; immune primer; adjuvant; adenoviral vector; cancer immunotherapy; tumor microenvironment; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : In recent years, immunotherapeutic approaches have achieved remarkable successes through checkpoint blockade antibodies, advances in the use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and new insights into the immunosuppressive role of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Through the advances, the role of cancer vaccines based on ex vivo manipulated autologous dendritic cells (DC) has been challenged. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular mechanisms behind the liver-induced acceptance of renal grafts in highly sensitized patients

    Author : Madeleine Ingelsten; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : kidney transplantation; liver tolerance; HLA antibodies; dendritic cells; indoleamine 2; 3-dioxygenase; IL-10; natural killer cells;

    Abstract : Preformed antibodies directed at donor HLA are considered an absolute contraindication for kidney transplantation, because of the high risk of rejection. Thus, patients with high levels of HLA antibodies have little chance of receiving a kidney transplant. READ MORE

  4. 4. The HER2/neu oncoprotein and dendritic cells in immunity against tumors

    Author : Yang Rongcun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HER2 neu; dendritic cells; ovarian carcinoma; apoptosis;

    Abstract : It is now well established that small peptide epitopes bound to the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), derived from processed proteins synthesized by the tumor cells, can be recognized as antigens by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs). A number of tumor antigens recognized by CTLs on human melanomas have been defined, but less is known about antigens from other tumor types. READ MORE

  5. 5. Immunomodulatory Effects of Human ImmunodeficiencyVirus (HIV-1) on Dendritic Cell and T cell Responses : Studies of HIV-1 effects on Dendritic cell functionality reflected in primed T cells

    Author : Karlhans Fru Che; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Douglas Nixon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 is the causative agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) worldwide. Till date there are no vaccines or cure for this infection as the virus has adapted myriad ways to remain persistent in the host where it causes severe damage to the immune system. READ MORE
