  1. 1. Alpha-Synuclein Oligomers : Cellular Mechanisms and Aspects of Antibody Treatment

    Author : Gabriel Gustafsson; Martin Ingelsson; Joakim Bergström; Anna Erlandsson; Tiago F Outeiro; Marina Romero-Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s Disease; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Oligomers; Monoclonal Antibody; Glia; Astrocyte; Immunofluorescence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : In Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), aggregated α-synuclein deposit inside cells within the brain. Smaller soluble α-synuclein aggregates, oligomers, are present both intra- and extracellularly. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characterization of Physiological and Pathological Alpha-Synuclein : Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders

    Author : Leire Almandoz Gil; Joakim Bergström; Martin Ingelsson; Kostas Vekrellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-synuclein; Aggregation; Parkinson’s disease; Dementia with Lewy bodies; Oxidative stress; Antibodies; Synapses; SNARE; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : Aggregated alpha-synuclein is the main component of Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites, intraneuronal inclusions found in the brains of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) patients (synucleinopathies). Alpha-synuclein is a presynaptic protein, which is most commonly an unfolded monomer in its physiological state. READ MORE

  3. 3. GDNF and alpha-synuclein in nigrostriatal degeneration

    Author : Maria Chermenina; Ingrid Strömberg; Guido Nikkhah; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; GDNF; ventral mesencephalon; lateral ganglionic eminence; alpha-synuclein; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a common neurological disorder with a complex etiology. The disease is characterized by a progressive loss of dopaminergic cells in the substantia nigra, which leads to motor function and sometimes cognitive function disabilities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pathogenic effects of alpha-synuclein: modifications and toxicity

    Author : Natalie Landeck; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Keywords : Parkinson s disease; adeno-associated viral vector; animal models; alpha-synuclein; substantia nigra; dopaminergic neurons; phosphorylation; aggregation; toxicity;

    Abstract : Accumulation of intraneuronal inclusions, containing mainly a protein called alpha-synuclein (asyn), is thought to play a critical role in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD). In these so called Lewy bodies, the majority of asyn is phosphorylated at serine 129 (pS129) suggesting that post-translational modifications may play a critical role in the process of aggregate formation.
