  1. 1. Vaccine-induced aluminium allergy and long-lasting subcutaneous itching nodules

    Author : Anette Gente-Lidholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childhood vaccine; Adverse event; Aluminium; Aluminium allergy; Itching nodules; Subcutaneous granulomas; Patch test; Tolerance;

    Abstract : Background: Aluminium contact dermatitis is rare even though aluminium is frequently used in antiperspirants and sunscreens. Sensitisation to aluminium is mostly a side effect of aluminium-adsorbed vaccines. These can also induce long-lasting intensely itching subcutaneous nodules (granulomas) at the injection site. 3. 3. Adverse Reactions after Vaccination and Allergen-Specific Immunotherapy: Contact Allergy to Aluminium and Itching Nodules

    Author : Eva Netterlid; Yrkes- och miljödermatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patch test; Itching nodules; Contact allergy; ASIT; Aluminium; Allergen-specific immunotherapy; Adverse event; Parental reports; vaccination;

    Abstract : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate two different types of adverse reactions, persistent itching nodules and contact allergy to aluminium, after immunization with aluminium-containing vaccines and aluminium-containing allergen extracts used for allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT). The first paper describes active parental reporting of adverse events (AEFIs) after a booster dose of diphtheria-tetanus vaccine (DT). READ MORE

  4. 4. Aspects of pertussis, pertussis vaccination and adverse events associated with aluminum adsorbed vaccines

    Author : Elisabet Bergfors; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Pertussis; parapertussis; pertussis toxoid; vaccine; vaccination; vaccine trial; adjuvant; aluminium; adsorbed vaccines; adverse event; pruritic nodules; itching nodules; granuloma; sensitisation; hypersensitivity; contact allergy;

    Abstract : The thesis originates in a clinical study of one of the new acellular pertussis vaccines performed in Göteborg in the 1990s. The monocomponent vaccine, pertussis toxoid adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide, had previously been shown to have an efficacy of 71%. READ MORE

  5. 5. Patch testing with palladium and aluminium, epidemiological and experimental studies

    Author : Lisbeth Rosholm Comstedt; Yrkes- och miljödermatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Contact allergy to palladium; prevalence of metal allergy; patch testing with palladium; natrium tetrachloropalladate; palladium chloride; Finn Chamber; patch testing with aluminium; isolated palladium allergy; patch test system; adjuvants in patch testing; delayed hypersensitivty reaction;

    Abstract : AbstractThe aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence and significance of contact allergy to palladium from a Swedish perspective. Our initial findings made it necessary to also explore the importance of the metal aluminium used in test chamber systems and the effect of aluminium chloride (Al-Cl) in patch test preparations.
