  1. 1. NMR STUDIES ON STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF TWO-DOMAIN PROTEINS

    Author : Houman Ghasriani; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Physical chemistry; Molekylär biofysik; CRISP-3; NMR; 3D-structure; NMR relaxation; Molecular biophysics; Prostate cancer; EGF module; PSP94; Beta-microseminoprotein; Protein S;

    Abstract : The general objective of the present thesis work was to examine 3-dimensional structure as well as the motional properties of two different types of two-domain proteins by solution-state NMR. One of the major tasks of this thesis work was to investigate the domain orientation of these molecules by employing residual dipolar couplings (RDC) which can be used as orientational restraints for increasing the accuracy of protein structures determined by NMR. 2. 2. Metabolic Engineering of the Central Carbon Metabolism in Streptococcus thermophilus for Enhanced Exopolysaccharide Production

    Author : Malin Svensson; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; mykologi; Biochemistry; virologi; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virology; mycology; bacteriology; Streptococcus thermophilus; Microbiology; Metabolic engineering; Lactic acid bacteria; Exopolysaccharides; Central carbon metabolism;

    Abstract : The lactic acid bacterium, Streptococcus thermophilus, is used in the dairy industry in mixed cultures with Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus for the production of yoghurt. Many strains of S. thermophilus produce exopolysaccharides (EPSs) which affect the texture and viscosity of fermented food products. READ MORE

    Author : Daniel Decker; Leszek A. Kleczkowski; Henrik Vibe Schelle; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical library screening; Cell wall synthesis; Glycosylation; Nucleotide sugars; Oligomerization; Protein structure; Reverse chemical genetics; Sugar activation; UDP-sugar synthesis; biokemisk farmakologi; biochemical pharmacology; biokemi; Biochemistry; biology; biologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. 4. 4. Insights into the Molecular Mechanisms of Litter Decomposition and Assimilation of Nitrogen by Ectomycorrhizal Fungi

    Author : Firoz Shah; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhizal fungi; Paxillus involutus; organic matter degradation; Fenton chemistry; carbon availability; N assimilation; C and N cycling; protein degradation pathway; secondary metabolites;

    Abstract : Ectomycorrhizae is the dominant type of mycorrhiza found in association with tree roots in boreal and northern temperate forests. In this symbiosis, the fungal partner derives energy from photosynthates provided by the host trees and in return delivers soil-derived nutrients such as nitrogen (N). READ MORE
