21. Asymmetric Synthesis of C-Glycosylated Amino Acids : Incorporation in Collagen Glycopeptides and Evaluation in a Model for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Abstract : This thesis describes stereoselective syntheses of four amino acids, three of which are C-glycosidic analogues of glycosylated amino acids. The overall goal of the project was to probe the interactions between MHC molecules, glycopeptide antigens and T cell receptors, that are essential for development of collagen induced arthritis. 22. Characterization of two novel fatty acid dioxygenases : Linoleate diol synthase and manganese lipoxygenase
Abstract : Two classes of fatty acid dioxygenases, PGH synthases (hemeproteins) and lipoxygenases (non-heme iron proteins), are of eminent pharmacological importance. This thesis describes a PGH synthase-related dioxygenase designated linoleate diol synthase (LDS) and the first native occurring manganese-containing lipoxygenase. READ MORE

23. Macrocyclic Carbohydrate/Amino Acid Hybrid Molecules - Synthesis and Evaluation as Artificial Receptors
Abstract : Methods were developed for the synthesis of three different types of macrocyclic carbohydrate/amino acid hybrid molecules. In the synthesis of the first type of macrocycles, a glucosamine derivative was oxidized at C6 and the obtained sugar amino acid was coupled to tripeptides. READ MORE

24. Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation of Aromatic Ketones : Catalyst Development and Mechanistic Studies
Abstract : This thesis describes the development and evaluation of new chiral Ru(arene)(amino alcohol) catalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones using isopropanol as the hydrogen source. Two mechanistic studies of the Ru(arene)(amino alcohol) catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of acetophenone were also conducted. The Ru(arene)[(1S,3R,4R)-3. READ MORE

25. Conformations of amino acids characterized by theoretical spectroscopy
Abstract : Amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins. The determinationof their structures plays an important role in correctly describing the functionsof the proteins. READ MORE
