  1. 1. Synthesis, Characterisation and Properties of Biomimetic Biodegradable Polymers

    Author : Fredrik Nederberg; Tim Bowden; Nicola Tirelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; biodegradable polymers; biomimetic; phospholipid-like; phosphorylcholine; amphiphilic; ionomer; hemocompatible; non-adhesive; water uptake; reduced protein adsorption; protein delivery; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The acceptance of blood contacting implants creating favorable conditions in vivo is decisively determined by their interaction with proteins that mediate inter cellular interactions with synthetic substrates. Adsorbed proteins can activate blood cascade systems like coagulation and complement that may result in serious blood clots, and/or immunological reactions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Amphiphilic Polymers as Additives in Biomedical Polyurethanes. Surface Properties and Morphology

    Author : Maria Kober; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymer micelles; phase separation; migration; poly ethylene oxide ; surface enrichment; morphology; polyurethane; additives; Surface modification; amphiphilic polymers; polymer blends; Polymer technology; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to achieve surface modification of two biomedical polyurethanes and one poly(urethane urea) through the addition of small amounts of amphiphilic copolymers in solution. The matrix polymers used were the poly(ether urethane)s Pellethane 2363-80AE (P80) and 2363-75D (P75) and a poly(ether urethane urea) similar to Biomer (PUUR). READ MORE

  3. 3. Amphiphilic hydrogels functionalized with antimicrobial peptides for wound care

    Author : Edvin Blomstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; infections; Antimicrobial peptides; hydrogels; wound care; lyotropic liquid crystals; antibacterial surfaces; amphiphilic polymers; surface functionalization;

    Abstract : Bacteria have the potential to cause significant harm to us when found in places where we do not want them, such as in wounds. Through the last century, the gold standard of eradicating bacteria in these cases has been with antibiotics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synergistic interactions involving amphiphilic polymers in solution

    Author : Maria Karlberg; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrophobic modification; cyclodextrin; rheology; emulsion stability; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; cellulose derivative; degradable surfactants; amylose;

    Abstract : The properties of hydrophobically modified cellulose derivatives in aqueous mixtures with various other molecules have been investigated. Mixtures of a hydrophobically modified polymer and alkali-sensitive, degradable surfactants gave rise to time-dependent viscosities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tuning Properties of Surfaces and Nanoscopic Objects using Dendronization and Controlled Polymerizations

    Author : Emma Östmark; Eva Malmström; Heikki Tenhu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dendrimers; dendronized polymers; cellulose; Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization; Ring-Opening Polymerization; surface modification; grafting; superhydrophobic; amphiphilic polymer; block copolymer; Atomic Force Microscopy; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : In this study, dendronization and grafting via controlled polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-opening polymerization (ROP), have been explored. Modification of surfaces and cellulose using these techniques, which enable grafting of well-defined polymer architectures, has been investigated. READ MORE
