  1. 11. Numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rock fractures

    Author : Liangchao Zou; Lanru Jing; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Chin-Fu Tsang; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rough-walled rock fractures; Nonlinear flow; Solute transport; Navier-Stokes equations; Matrix diffusion; Uncertainty.; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : This study focuses on numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rough-walled rock fractures and fracture-matrix systems, with the main aim to investigate the impacts of fracture surface roughness on flow and transport processes in rock fractures. Both 2D and 3D fracture models were built from laser-scanned surface tomography of a real granite rock sample, to consider realistic features of surface tomography and potential asperity contacts. 2. 12. Application of cohesive modeling in joining technology : Thick adhesive layers and rivet joints

    Author : Saeed Salimi; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : This thesis summarizes the development of cohesive modeling of joints. It presents some new developments regarding the effects of non-zero thickness of adhesive layers and a novel approach of using the concept of cohesive modeling to characterize the failure behavior of rivet joints. 3. 13. Computational Modeling, Parameterization, and Evaluation of the Spread of Diseases

    Author : Robin Marin; Stefan Engblom; Trevelyan J. McKinley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parameter estimation; Bayesian modeling; Stochastic epidemiological models; simulation-based inference; approximate bayesian computations; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Computer simulations play a vital role in the modeling of infectious diseases. Different modeling regimes fit specific purposes, from ordinary differential equations to probabilistic formulations. READ MORE

  4. 14. Multi-Scale Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction : Implications for GroundwaterDischarge Patterns

    Author : Babak Brian Mojarrad; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Jan Fleckenstein; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groundwater flow; hyporheic zone; multi-scale modeling; spectral analysis; fragmentation of discharge zones; characteristic parameters; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering;

    Abstract : Rivers and aquifers are continuously exchanging water, driven by processes that occur on various temporal and spatial scales, ranging from small streambed features to large geological structures. The interaction between these two components occurs in permeable sediments below the stream channel, called the hyporheic zone. READ MORE

  5. 15. Recursive Bayesian Estimation : Navigation and Tracking Applications

    Author : Niclas Bergman; Fredrik Gustafsson; Lennart Ljung; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Target tracking; Autonomous aircraft navigation; Terrain navigation;

    Abstract : Recursive estimation deals with the problem of extracting information about parameters, or states, of a dynamical system in real time, given noisy measurements of the system output. Recursive estimation plays a central role in many applications of signal processing, system identification and automatic control. READ MORE
