  1. 21. Micro-crack initiation and propagation in fiber reinforced composites

    Author : Andrejs Pupurs; Stephen L. Ogin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Abstract : Predicting micro-damage initiation and evolution is one of the key challenges for safe design of fiber reinforced polymer composites. Micro-scale damage such as, for example, single fiber break may be unnoticeable and negligible during the initial service life of composite, however, with many loading and unloading cycles this initially micro-scale damage may propagate forming macroscopic scale cracks that can significantly reduce the service lifetime or even lead to unforeseen catastrophic failure of the composite structure. 2. 22. Mechanistic Modeling of Water Vapour Condensation in Presence of Noncondensable Gases

    Author : Krzysztof Karkoszka; Henryk Anglart; Bengt Sundén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the analytical and numerical analysis of the water vapour condensation from the multicomponent mixture of condensable and noncondensable gases in the area of the nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulic safety.Following an extensive literature review in this field three aspects of the condensation phenomenon have been taken into consideration: a surface condensation, a liquid condensate interaction with gaseous mixtures and a spontaneous condensation in supersaturated mixtures. 3. 23. 2D hybrid modeling of defects in an ultrasonic inspection situation

    Author : Maria Semenova; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ultrasonics; T matrix; Finite element method; Scattering; Modelling;

    Abstract : Advanced methods of nondestructive evaluations (NDE) are widely used for in-service inspection in many industrial applications, e.g. nuclear and aerospace industries. In these applications the components are exposed to different degradation mechanisms (e. READ MORE

  4. 24. Simulations and experiments of turbulent diffuser flow with hydropower applications

    Author : T. Fredrik Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Most hydropower plants in Sweden were built more than 50 years ago. The design tools were model tests and one-dimensional analytical methods. Since then the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics has evolved into an important engineering tool. READ MORE

  5. 25. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes

    Author : Gustav Lindberg; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone growth; Osteogenesis; Diffusion in bone; stress enhanced diffusion; Ginzburg-Landau; phase-field; diffusion experiment; Conductivity; Kalman filter; finite element method; Fourier series; Fick’s law; Osteology;

    Abstract : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. READ MORE
