1. Membrane transport and the human small intestine : Relation to mucosal protection, intestinal anaphylaxis and nitric oxide
Abstract : The tightly adherent monolayer of epithelial cells that line the luminal side of the intestine provides a dynamic and highly regulated barrier to the passive and active transport of ions, water and macromolecules. Cathecol-O-methyl transferase inhibition prevents tissue degradation of catecholaminesincluding dopamine and intracellular carbonic anhydrase activity is an important regulator of ion and water transport in the small intestine. 2. Functional Aspects of Peripheral and Spinal Cord Neurons Involved in Itch and Pain
Abstract : We have investigated the role of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 7 (mGluR7) and the gastrin releasing peptide receptor (Grpr) population that are involved at different levels of itch transmission. We found that mGuR7 deficient mice displayed an anaphylaxis-like behavior when provoked with histamine. READ MORE

5. Mast cell activation disorders : a liaison between anaphylaxis and mastocytosis
Abstract : The term mast cell activation disorders (MCAD) comprises a broad spectrum of heterogeneous conditions, such as mastocytosis, characterized by inappropriate mast cell activation/accumulation. The patients present with protean clinical manifestations and severity grade of symptoms may vary from case-to-case. READ MORE
