  1. 11. Dynamics of the glomerular filtration barrier - Physiological and pathophysiological aspects

    Author : Josefin Axelsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glomerular filtration barrier; Glomerular permeability; Microalbuminuria; Albumin; Ficoll; Sieving Coefficient; Rats;

    Abstract : The dynamic properties of the glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) are of fundamental importance for the understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of microalbuminuria and proteinuric diseases. In the studies of this doctoral thesis the properties of the rat glomerular filtration barrier were investigated under resting conditions and following a number of challenges using highly sensitive gel filtration chromatography (HPSEC) detection of FITC-Ficoll in serum and urine. 2. 12. Intra- and Extracellular Modulation of Integrin-directed Connective Tissue Cell Contraction

    Author : Tijs van Wieringen; Kristofer Rubin; Anders Arner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Interstitial fluid pressure; PDGF-BB; bacterial proteins; αVβ3 integrin; cytoskeleton; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : All blood vessels in the microvasculature are embedded in loose connective tissue, which regulates the transport of fluid to and from tissues. The intersti-tial fluid pressure (IFP) is one of the forces that control this transport. READ MORE

  3. 13. Regulation of mast cell function and survival in health and disease

    Author : Katarina Lyberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mast cells are sentinels of danger but they are also the major effector cells in allergic disease causing the well-known allergic symptoms caused by their mediators such as histamine and prostaglandin D2 that are released upon activation. Mastocytosis is a disease characterized by the clonal expansion of mast cells in the skin and/or other organs where the patients suffer from mediator-related symptoms and/or organ failure due to mast cell infiltration. 4. 14. Mechanism and therapy of hereditary angioedema typ III and role of the contact system in inflammatory diseases

    Author : Jenny Björkqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Combinations of proinflammatory and procoagulant reactions are associated with a variety of disorders affecting the cardiovascular system. Vascular leakage contributes to the pathology of conditions such as, sepsis, allergy and anaphylactic reactions. READ MORE

  5. 15. Cat allergy : diagnosis and characterization of important allergens
