  1. 6. Active Memory Processing on Multiple Time-scales in Simulated Cortical Networks with Hebbian Plasticity

    Author : Florian Fiebig; Anders Lansner; Tim Vogels; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Working memory; Long-term memory; consolidation; spiking; neural network; BCPNN; cortical microcircuit; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis examines declarative memory function, and its underlying neural activity and mechanisms in simulated cortical networks. The included simulation models utilize and synthesize proposed universal computational principles of the brain, such as the modularity of cortical circuit organization, attractor network theory, and Hebbian synaptic plasticity, along with selected biophysical detail from the involved brain areas to implement functional models of known cortical memory systems. 2. 7. On practical machine learning and data analysis

    Author : Daniel Gillblad; Anders Lansner; Finn Jensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses and addresses some of the difficulties associated with practical machine learning and data analysis. Introducing data driven meth- ods in e. g. industrial and business applications can lead to large gains in productivity and efficiency, but the cost and complexity are often overwhelm- ing. 3. 8. Information processing in the Striatum : a computational study

    Author : Johannes Hjorth; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Anders Lansner; Kim Blackwell; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; striatum; fast spiking interneuron; gap junctions; synchronisation; up-state detection; CaMKII; mathematical modelling; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : The basal ganglia form an important structure centrally placed in the brain. They receive input from motor, associative and limbic areas, and produce output mainly to the thalamus and the brain stem. The basal ganglia have been implied in cognitive and motor functions. READ MORE

  4. 9. Computational modeling of the lamprey CPG : from subcellular to network level

    Author : Mikael Huss; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Anders Lansner; Ranu Jung; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : Due to the staggering complexity of the nervous system, computer modelling is becoming one of the standard tools in the neuroscientist's toolkit. In this thesis, I use computer models on different levels of abstraction to compare hypotheses and seek un- derstanding about pattern-generating circuits (central pattern generators, or CPGs) in the lamprey spinal cord. 5. 10. An Attractor Memory Model of Neocortex

    Author : Christopher Johansson; Anders Lansner; Stefano Fusi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Attractor Neural Networks; Cerebral Cortex; Neocortex; Brain Like Computing; Hypercolumns; Minicolumns; BCPNN; Parallel Computers; Autoassociative Memory; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents an abstract model of the mammalian neocortex. The model was constructed by taking a top-down view on the cortex, where it is assumed that cortex to a first approximation works as a system with attractor dynamics. READ MORE
