  1. 21. Targeting cytotoxic species in amyloid diseases

    Author : Malin Lindhagen Persson; Anders Olofsson; Lars Tjernberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Amyloid-beta; transthyretin; FAP; amyloid; cytotoxic species; oligomers; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Amyloid diseases are a world-wide problem causing great human suffer and large economical costs. Although amyloid deposits, a common denominator in all amyloid disorders, are detrimental to the surrounding tissue, there is a poor correlation between total amyloid burden and clinical symptoms. 2. 22. Kinetic stabilization of transthyretin and its role as an inhibitor of Aβ amyloid formation

    Author : Lina Nilsson; Anders Olofsson; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Gunilla Westermark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amyloid; transthyretin; amyloid beta; kinetic stabilizer; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Amyloid formation occurs when normally soluble proteins and peptides misfold and aggregate into intractable threadlike structures called fibrils. There are currently more than 30 proteins associated with this aberrant structure, including the Aβ peptide in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and transthyretin (TTR) in TTR amyloidosis. READ MORE

  3. 23. Communication of life cycle assessment results : life cycle key performance indicators

    Author : Helena Nydahl; Thomas Olofsson; Anders P. Åstrand; Staffan Andersson; Åsa Wahlström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Life Cycle Assessment; Monetary Valuation; Climate Impact; Life Cycle Key Performance Indicators; Global Warming Potential; LCA-result communication; Interpretation of LCA-results; climate change; klimatförändringar;

    Abstract : The global warming that we are on track for will result in a severe loss of natural capital leading to significant losses in economic capital when urban infrastructure is destroyed, agricultural productivity declines and poverty spread among other disasters. Climate change due to emissions does not only affect the polluter, the hazardous effects becomes evident on a global level. READ MORE

  4. 24. Learning to be at a distance : structural and educational change in the digitalization of medical education

    Author : Fanny Pettersson; Anders D. Olofsson; Tor Söderström; Christina Ljungberg; Andreas Lund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Distance education; medical education; medical program; regionalized medical program; rural clinical school; digitalization; digital technologies; technology-enhanced learning; TEL; cultural-historical activity theory; CHAT; transition; transformation; conflicts; contradictions; dominant- non-dominant activities; levels of learning; pedagogik; Education;

    Abstract : As an expression of current challenges faced by contemporary societies, past decades have witnessed heavy demands for higher education to change and transform. One key question here has been the increased digitalization of higher education. READ MORE

  5. 25. On the running-in of gears

    Author : Sören Sjöberg; Ulf Olofsson; Anders Flodin; KTH; []
    Keywords : gears; gear manufacturing; running-in; surface topography; contact area ratio; manganese phosphate; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : The general trend in gear industry, today, is an increased focus on gear transmission efficiency. Gear transmission efficiency losses arise from loaded and unloaded gear contacts, seals, lubricant and bearings. One way of minimising the losses is to lower the lubricant viscosity. This will reduce the speed dependent losses. READ MORE
