  1. 1. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics

    Author : Eva Samsöe Andersen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phasematching; photodynamic therapy; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems.; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; Laserteknik; Laser technology; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; second harmonic generation; pulsed lasers; spatial filtering; Diode lasers; optical feedback; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Samsöe Andersen;

    Abstract : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment. 2. 2. Cookstoves, Candles, and Phthalates – Real Time Physicochemical Characterization and Human Exposure to Indoor Aerosols

    Author : Christina Andersen; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aerosol particles; OA; BC; cookstoves; candle emissions; phthalates; human exposure; PAHs;

    Abstract : Exposure to air pollution is associated with adverse health effects in humans, with special concern for exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5). The physicochemical properties of aerosols impact the health effects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Making Magic Machines

    Author : Kristina Andersen; Kristina Höök; Mark Blythe; Steve Benford; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Människa-datorinteraktion; Human-computer Interaction;

    Abstract : How can we design experiences that explore ideas and notions of the unknown? The aim of the work outlined here is to create short, intense, workshop-like experiences that generate strong commitments, and expose underlying personal desires as drivers for new ideas. I would like to propose a material practice, which uses open-ended making to engage in the imagination of new things. READ MORE

  4. 4. Friend or Foe? Biocontrol interactions of Pythium oligandrum within the potato cropping system

    Author : Christian Benjamin Andersen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The potato crop is a valuable but vulnerable food source on a global level. It is under constant pressure from destructive plant diseases such as early and late blight. Traditionally to control these diseases farmers have relied heavily on synthetic fungicide use. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Disease

    Author : Kasper Andersen; Johan Sundström; Claes Held; Frieder Braunschweig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical activity; epidemiology; cohort study; heart failure; cardiovascular disease; arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; bradyarrhythmias; sudden cardiac death; heart failure; stroke; ischemic heart disease; cardiovascular death; maximal exercise capacity; muscle strength; skeletal muscle morphology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Abstract : The aim was to investigate associations of fitness and types and levels of physical activity with subsequent risk of cardiovascular disease.Four large-scale longitudinal cohort studies were used. The exposures were different measures related to physical activity and the outcomes were obtained through linkage to the Swedish In-Patient Register. READ MORE
