  1. 1. Constraints on the gas temperature in the solaratmosphere from multiwavelength inversions

    Author : João Manuel da Silva Santos; Jaime de la Cruz Rodríguez; Andreas Korn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sun; chromosphere; ALMA; inversions; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : In this Licentiate thesis I review the properties of the solar atmosphere and the diagnostic value ofdifferent spectral lines in the visible and ultraviolet (UV) along with the millimeter (mm) continua in theelectromagnetic spectrum of the Sun.While the solar atmosphere has been routinely observed in high-resolution from ground-based opti-cal telescopes such as the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST), and more recently in the UV from space tele-scopes such as the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS), radio observations lag behind despitetheir great usefulness. 2. 2. Statistical Methods in Quantitative Spectroscopy of Solar-Type Stars

    Author : Alvin Gavel; Andreas Korn; Ulrike Heiter; Coryn Bailer-Jones; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : Galactic archaeology is the research field that attempts to reconstruct the history of the Milky Way, using primarily the tools of astrometric studies and chemical studies. The latter in turn uses stellar spectroscopy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploring the Chemical Evolution of Globular Clusters and their Stars : Observational Constraints on Atomic Diffusion and Cluster Pollution in NGC 6752 and M4

    Author : Pieter Gruyters; Andreas Korn; Piercarlo Bonifacio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars: abundances – stars: atmospheres – stars: fundamental parameters – globular clusters: individual: NGC 6752 and M4 – techniques: spectroscopic; Astronomy with specialization in Astrophysics; Astronomi med intiktning mot astrofysik;

    Abstract : Through the cosmic matter cycle, the chemical evolution of the Milky Way is imprinted in the elemental abundance patterns of late-type stars (spectral types F to K). Due to their long lifetimes ( 1 Hubble time), these stars are of particular importance when it comes to studying the build-up of elements during the early times of our Galaxy. READ MORE

  4. 4. Galactic archaeology with metal-poor stars

    Author : Thomas Nordlander; Andreas J. Korn; Karin Lind; Ulrike Heiter; David L. Lambert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars: abundances; radiative transfer; stars: Population II; stars: Population III;

    Abstract : The chemical fingerprints of old, metal-poor stars can be used to unravel the events of the newborn Universe and help us understand the properties of the first stars and star clusters. The study of nearby stars to infer properties in the distant past is often referred to as Galactic archaeology. READ MORE

  5. 5. Searching for Dyson spheres in the Milky Way

    Author : Matías Suazo; Erik Zackrisson; Andreas J. Korn; Hector Socas-Navarro; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extraterrestrial intelligence; infrared:stars; Astronomi och astrofysik; Astronomy and Astrophysics;

    Abstract : The quest to find intelligent extraterrestrial life has captivated humanity for a long time, motivating the development of various strategies to search for signs of advanced civilizations. These strategies comprise multiple techniques and span different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. READ MORE
