21. Evolutionary Materialism: Towards a Theory of Anticipatory Adaptive Assemblages
Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into how meta-heuristic multi-objective optimisation processes (genetic algorithms driven by evolutionary solvers) can bring about materials-related advantages in architectural performance. It redefines the architect’s and engineer’s role from being designers of a singular space or structure to being designers of entire species of spaces, and discusses a particular method – anticipatory adaptive assemblages (AAA) – that allows such processes to produce many generations of design iterations that eventually yield individuals optimised for a set of predefined objectives. 22. Orchestrating mathematical whole-class discussions in the problem-solving classroom : Theorizing challenges and support for teachers
Abstract : Promising teaching approaches for developing students’ mathematical competencies include the approach of teaching mathematics through problem solving. Orchestrating a whole-class discussion of students’ ideas is an important aspect of teaching through problem solving. READ MORE

23. Managing Platform-Mediated Ecosystems : Investigating ecosystem interdependencies and strategic choices
Abstract : The rapid and ubiquitous spread of information technologies (IT) is creating unprecedented effects that challenge traditional fundamentals of the business world. Platform-mediated ecosystems are increasingly attracting the attention of practitioners from diverse industries, from telecommunications to video consoles, as well as academics from different fields ranging from management to economics, and information systems (IS) and innovation management. 24. Numerical models to simulate wear and friction-induced heating in rough surface contacts
Abstract : The study of friction and wear is a crucial element in the effort to reduce carbon footprint in technology. It is evident that friction and wear are responsible for a significant amount of global energy losses, emphasizing the need for research on the topic. READ MORE
