1. Parity Effects in Single Charge Tunneling
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is single charge tunneling effects, especially parity effects, as they are manifested in quantum mechanical tunneling through a metallic island small enough to cause single electrons to block tunneling of other electrons due to Coulomb interaction. When the island is superconducting the ground state energy depends on the parity of the number of electrons on the island: outside of the condensate there will always be at least one electron contributing to the energy for an odd number of electrons and this will have observable consequences. 2. Collective Electron Dynamics in Mesoscopic Systems
Abstract : This work is devoted to a theoretical investigation of collective electron dynamics in low dimensional materials and mesoscopic structures. A common feature of these studies is the focus on the properties of the low energy dynamics of conduction electrons. One class of studied materials is the high-Tc superconductor Nd2CuO4 and related compounds. READ MORE

3. Dissipative Processes in Superconducting Diffusive Tunnel Junctions
Abstract : A central subject of this thesis is the dissipative current transport in superconducting tunnel junctions with diffusive electrodes. Tunnel current transport in superconducting junctions is a classical topic of interest and research. READ MORE

5. Multiple Andreev Reflection - a Microscopic Theory of ac Josephson Effect in Mesoscopic Junctions
Abstract : The mechanism of multiple Andreev reflection (MAR) is a microscopic theory for electron transport in voltage biased superconducting junctions, i.e. the ac Josephson effect. In this thesis we propose a new approach for calculating the dc current from MAR. READ MORE
