  2. 22. Aggregates in Concrete Mix Design

    Author : Yahya Ghasemi; Mats Emborg; Andrzej Cwirzen; Martin Nilsson; Gram Hans-Erik; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mix design; water layer theory; particle packing; aggregates; specific surface area; Byggproduktion; Construction Engineering and Management;

    Abstract : The importance of studying the behaviour and properties of concrete can be highlighted by considering the fact that concrete is the most used man-made material in the world. The very first step in making concrete is its mix design and deciding the type and amount of constitutes used in the production of concrete which should fulfil the requirements of the final product. 3. 23. Flowability and proportioning of cementitious mixtures

    Author : Yahya Ghasemi; Mats Emborg; Andrzej Cwirzen; Martin Nilsson; Stefan Jacobsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle packing; excess layer theory; mix design; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Understanding the role of constituents of cementitious mixtures as the most globally used human-made material and their effect on the flowability of the blends is of great importance. A comprehensive understanding of the ingredients of mixtures allows for optimized proportioning of constituents and can lead to a reduction in cement and water demand of the blends. READ MORE

  4. 24. Radiation response in human cells : DNA damage formation, repair and signaling

    Author : Ann-Sofie Gustafsson; Bo Stenerlöw; Andrzej Wojcik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DNA damage; DNA repair; DSB; NHEJ; DNA-PK; ionizing radiation; heat-labile sites; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Ionizing radiation induces a range of different DNA lesions. In terms of mutation frequency and mammalian cell survival, the most critical of these lesions is the DNA double-strand break (DSB). DSB left unrepaired or mis-repaired may result in chromosomal aberrations that can lead to permanent genetic changes or cell death. READ MORE
