1. Computer Aided Angioplasty : Patient-specific arterial modeling and smooth 3D contact analysis of the stent-balloon-artery interaction
Abstract : Paper A: In this paper, the development and implementation of a contact algorithm based on C2-continuous surface representations is discussed. In 3D contact simulations involving models with arbitrarily curved surfaces (as in the case of vessel walls), the discretization of the contact surfaces by means of facet-based techniques could lead to numerical instabilities and finally loss of quadratic convergence. 2. Cardiovascular risk factors in renal artery stenosis : Effects of renal angioplasty and angiotensin II receptor antagonism
Abstract : Renovascular hypertension (RVH) caused by atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) is one of the most common forms of secondary hypertension. The prognosis for patients with RVH is much worse compared to patients with primary hypertension, and caused by a high cardiovascular morbidity. READ MORE

3. Life situation in people with peripheral arterial disease and their family members
Abstract : Life with peripheral arterial disease and the resulting impaired walking ability leads to major limitations in daily life and a decreased quality of life. The overall aim of this thesis was to generate understanding about the life situation among people living with peripheral arterial disease and their family members. READ MORE

4. Inflammatory Response in Peripheral Arterial Disease
Abstract : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is the manifestation of atherosclerotic lesions in arteries supplying blood to the legs. Atherosclerosis is now recognized as an inflammatory disease of the vessel wall and important features in the pathophysiology are activation of WBC, endothelial cells and increased levels of inflammatory mediators. 5. Infrainguinal Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty in Limbs with Severe Lower Limb Ischaemia
Abstract : Infrainguinal bypass grafting is an established method in the treatment of patients with femoropopliteal and crural occlusive disease leading to critical lower limb ischaemia (CLI). However, complications related to surgical procedure are not negligible and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has emerged as an alternative. READ MORE
