  1. 6. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree

    Author : Mikael Åkesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome mapping ; AFLP; microsatellite; synteny; heterochiasmy; recombination; chicken; great reed warbler ; bird; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Animal ecology; trait correlation ; Djurekologi; animal model ; selection; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; heritability;

    Abstract : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population. 2. 7. Ontogeny and Population Biology of a Sex-Limited Colour Polymorphism

    Author : Jessica Abbott; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; embryologi; ontogeni; animal morphology; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Damselflies; Colour polymorphism; Development; Frequency-dependence; Morphology; growth animal ; ontogeny; Animal anatomy; Development biology; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; Population divergence; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : This study has involved investigation of number of populations of the damselfly Ischnura elegans over several years, looking at frequency changes over time, morphological differences between the sexes and the morphs, differences in growth rate and development time, differences in fecundity between the morphs, and genetic differentiation between populations. 3. 8. Local adaptive pigmentation in Asellus aquaticus -effects of UV-radiation and predation regime

    Author : Jonas Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; limnology; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Ekologi; Ecology; damselfly; perch; UV-avoidance; isopod; anti-predator traits; evolution; selective predation; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Pigmentation in the freshwater isopod Asellus aquaticus differed between two habitats. Asellus were lighter pigmented in stands of submerged stonewort vegetation, than in nearby reed stands. Moreover, Asellus pigmentation became lighter with time in recently established stonewort stands. READ MORE

  4. 9. The Threat to the Baltic Salmon - a Combination of Persistent Pollutants, Parasite and Oxidative Stress

    Author : Maria Persson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Salmo salar; Atlantic salmon; polychlorinated biphenyls; Animal ecology; akvatisk ekologi; limnologi; Marinbiologi; limnology; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Ekologi; Ecology; lake Vänern; lake Vättern; Baltic Sea; Eubothrium crassum; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; AHR; consumption advice; stable isotopes; astaxanthin; EROD; M74; antioxidants; biomagnification; cestodes; parasites; DDT; Djurekologi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; PCB;

    Abstract : Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from the Baltic Sea suffer from a reproduction disease known as the M74-syndrome. Newly hatched fry develop nerve disorders and die between 3-5 days after the first symptoms are seen. This is a maternally transmitted disease that is casued by a thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency. 5. 10. Biodiversity in Agricultural Landscapes: Landscape and Scale-Dependent Effects of Organic Farming

    Author : Maj Rundlöf; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; Ekologi; Animal ecology; plants; spatial scales; species richness; Ecology; landscape ecology; agri-environment schemes; farming practice; conservation; butterflies; bumble bees;

    Abstract : Declines in the distribution and abundance of many farmland species during recent decades have been attributed to agricultural intensification. Agri-environment schemes are commonly used in Europe to reduce this loss of farmland biodiversity, but their effectiveness may depend on several external factors. READ MORE
