    Abstract : Transuranium elements in the environment are mainly derived from nuclear weapons testing and the nuclear fuel cycle. Of growing concern are illicit nuclear trafficking and the threat of terror acts. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fermentation Inhibitors in the Production of Bio-ethanol: Detoxification of Lignocellulose Hydrolyzates and Physiological Effects of Furfural on Yeast

    Author : Ilona Sárvári Horváth; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : detoxification; fermentation inhibitors; metabolic flux analysis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; lignocellulose; ethanol; chemostat; furfural conversion;

    Abstract : Different strategies to overcome inhibitor problems in the production of bio-ethanol from lignocellulose hydrolyzates with the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae were examined. The strategies included detoxification prior to fermentation and in situ detoxification of furfural. A strain development for improved inhibitor tolerance was also initiated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Analysis and human levels of persistent perfluorinated chemicals

    Author : Anna Kärrman; Gunilla Lindström; Bert van Bavel; Ulf Järnberg; Jessika Hagberg; Lennart Hardell; Derek Muir; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; PFOS; PFOA; SPE; LC-MS; human exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : An extensive use of perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in the last 50 years has resulted in a worldwide spread of these persistent chemicals. Human populations are subjected to a large number of PFCs in ways that are not yet fully explained. READ MORE

  5. 5. Polymer Displacement and Supermacroporous Cryogels - Two New Tools in Chromatographic Separation of Biomolecules and Bioparticles

    Author : Pär Arvidsson; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biopolymers; Polymerteknik; Biochemical technology; Polymer technology; IMAC; dye-affinity; affinity chromatography; viable cells; cell chromatography; non-clarified cell homogenate; cryogel; Polymer displacement; supermacroporous; Biokemisk teknik;

    Abstract : Production of protein is often accompanied with difficulties due to the large amounts of different biological material resulting from fermentation. This makes purification necessary and affinity chromatography is usually involved as being biospecific, although suffering from limitations as low recovery due to ineffective elution and inability to handle particulate materials.
