  1. 1. Lipid Metabolism and Insulin Signalling in Adipocytes : enhanced autophagy in type 2 diabetes

    Author : Anita Öst; Peter Strålfors; Johanna Gustavsson Dahlberg; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Energy storage in the adipose tissue, to an extent leading to obesity, is associated with local as well assystemic insulin resistance. When insulin-producing beta-cells in the pancreas gradually fail tocompensate, plasma levels of glucose rise and overt type 2 diabetes is diagnosed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characterization of Novel Solute Carriers in Humans, Mice and Flies : Solute Carriers in a Broad and Narrow Perspective

    Author : Mikaela Ceder; Robert Fredriksson; Anita Öst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Solute carrier; SLC; Putative SLCs; Major facilitator superfamily; MFS; Drosophila melanogaster; Glucose metabolism; UNC93A; CG4928; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : The solute carrier family is the largest family of membrane-bound transporters in humans, with 430 members divided into 65 subfamilies. They transport various substrates across lipid barriers and are vital for absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion in all cell types in the body. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular characterization of the interplay between DNA-PK and TRF2 in telomere protection

    Author : Beatrice Toia; Francisca Lottersberger; Anita Öst; Grazia Daniela Raffa; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The genetic material of mammalian cells is organized as linear chromosomes inside their nucleus. In order to preserve genomic stability, mammalian cells have developed several mechanisms to detect and repair DNA lesions that can occasionally occur in the genome. READ MORE

  4. 4. Small non-coding RNA in early fly development : plasticity, interactions and improved bioinformatic tools

    Author : Lovisa Örkenby; Anita Öst; Rashmi Ramesh; Daniel Nätt; Nicola Iovino; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Drosophila; Maternal-to-zygotic transition; sncRNA; miRNA; piRNA; Embryogenesis; Zygotic gene activation;

    Abstract : At fertilization, the male and female pronuclei undergo a transformation from germline to pluripotency as they fuse, marking the beginning of Drosophila embryogenesis. As the parental contributions decrease, the zygote takes control of its genome in a process called the maternal-to-zygotic transition (MZT). READ MORE

  5. 5. Ambiguous Endeavours. The Evolution of the Melodramatic Mode in Polish Holocaust Narratives from Hanna Krall to "The Aftermath"

    Author : Anita Pluwak; Öst- och centraleuropakunskap; []

    Abstract : This thesis examines how melodrama, defined as a complex, distinctly modern and transnational mode of storytelling with lasting impact on the culture of global modernity, has influenced the area of Polish Holocaust representation since the late 1970s till the present. Within a methodological frame that seeks to combine textual and contextual analysis, the study poses a set of questions that can be asked of the melodramatic mode’s narrative structures and stylistic devices, their signifying and functionality, in selected instances of literary and film narratives.
