  1. 1. Acoustic, perceptual and physiological studies of ten-year-old children's voices

    Author : Anita McAllister; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Child voice; hoarseness; perceptual evaluation; voice characteristics; visual analog scales; voice range profiles; fundamental frequency range; dynamic range; glottal closure; stroboscopy; vocal nodules; register transitions; subglottal pressure; SPL;

    Abstract : The aim of the present investigation was to study hoarseness and its perceptual, acoustic and physiological characteristics in ten-year-old children's voices. Fifty-eight children's voices were perceptually evaluated along 15 voice parameters. READ MORE

  2. 2. Collision Threshold Pressure : A novel measure of voice function Effects of vocal warm-up, vocal loading and resonance tube phonation in water

    Author : Laura Enflo; Anita McAllister; Johan Sundberg; Marc de Bodt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The phonation threshold pressure (PTP), i.e., the smallest amount of subglottal pressure needed to initiate and sustain vocal fold oscillation, is frequently difficult to measure due to the difficulty for some subjects to produce extremely soft phonation. In addition, PTP values are often quite scattered. READ MORE

  3. 3. Oral Motor Function, Voice, Speech and Language in Children with Tonsillar Hypertrophy in Relation to Surgical Outcome

    Author : Inger Lundeborg Hammarström; Anita McAllister; Elisabeth Hultcrantz; Anneli Yliherva; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was two-fold: first, to evaluate four different functional aspects of the speech and language spectrum; oral-motor function, voice, /s/-articulation and phonology in preschool children with tonsillar hypertrophy before and after surgical treatment. The second aim was to investigate weather the outcome of surgery was equal for two surgical techniques; tonsillectomy or tonsillotomy combined with adenoidectomy when necessary. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mind your Language, All Right? Performance-dependent neural patterns of language

    Author : Helene van Ettinger-Veenstra; Maria Engström; Peter Lundberg; Thomas Karlsson; Anita McAllister; Karsten Specht; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Language ability; performance; fMRI; functional magnetic resonance imaging; Broca; Wernicke; temporal lobe; inferior frontal gyrus; reading; fluency; lateralization; lateralisation; right hemisphere; performance-dependent; neural activation;

    Abstract : The main aim of this dissertation was to investigate the difference in neural language patternsrelated to language ability in healthy adults. The focus lies on unraveling the contributions of theright‐hemispheric homologues to Broca’s area in the inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and Wernicke’s areain the posterior temporal and inferior parietal lobes. 5. 5. Children with Cochlear Implants : Cognition and Reading Ability

    Author : Malin Wass; Björn Lyxell; Birgitta Sahlén; Birgitta Larsby; Anita McAllister; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Cochlear implants; children; working memory; phonological skills; lexical access; reading ability; Cochleaimplantat; barn; arbetsminne; fonologiska färdigheter; lexikal aktivering; läsförmåga.; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The present thesis investigated cognitive ability in children with severe to profound hearing impairment who have received cochlear implants (CIs). The auditory stimulation from a cochlear implant early in life influences most cognitive functions as a consequence of the plasticity of the brain in the young child. READ MORE
