  1. 16. Analysis of Nucleotide Variations in Non-human Primates

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Rönn; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Mats Nilsson; Phillip Morin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular genetics; SNP; genotyping; primate; chimpanzee; whole genome amplification; multiple displacement amplification; minisequencing; microarray; Y-chromosome; mitochondria; Genetik;

    Abstract : Many of our closest relatives, the primates, are endangered and could be extinct in a near future. To increase the knowledge of non-human primate genomes, and at the same time acquire information on our own genomic evolution, studies using high-throughput technologies are applied, which raises the demand for large amounts of high quality DNA. 2. 17. Genetic Analyses of Multiple Sclerosis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : From Single Markers to Genome-Wide Data

    Author : Johanna K Sandling; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Lovisa Lovmar; Joseph Terwilliger; Javier Martín Ibáñez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Multiple Sclerosis; Association study; Type I interferon system; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : In autoimmune diseases an individual’s immune system becomes targeted at the body’s own healthy cells. The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors for the two autoimmune diseases multiple sclerosis (MS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). READ MORE

  3. 18. Large-Scale Genotyping for Analysis of the Type I Interferon System in Autoimmune Diseases

    Author : Snaevar Sigurdsson; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Timothy Behrens; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular medicine; Minisequencing; SNP; Microarray; Polymorphism; Mitochondria; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; Rheumatoid Arthritis; Association study; Type I interferon; Genotyping; Molekylärmedicin;

    Abstract : Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the most common form of genetic variation. We developed a novel multiplexed method for SNP genotyping based on four-color fluorophore tag-microarray minisequencing. This method allows simultaneous genotyping of 80 samples and up to 200 SNPs in any allele combination. READ MORE

  4. 19. Identification and Characterization of Biomarkers in Bacterial Infections

    Author : Martin Storm; Lars Engstrand; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Hans-Jurg Monstein; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : In recent years molecular biology has become an integral part of the clinical laboratory. With an ever increasing number of methodologies and applications being presented each year it has increased our knowledge of how bacteria cause disease as well as our ability to predict disease outcome. 5. 20. Genetical and Clinical Studies in Wilson's Disease

    Author : Erik Waldenström; Kerstin Westermark; Ulf Landegren; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Peter Ferenci; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; copper radioisotopes; DNA sequence analyses; genotype; hepatolenticular degeneration; neoplasms; phenotype; positron-emission tomography; psychopathology; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Wilson’s disease is a rare inborn error of metabolism caused by a defect in ATP7B, a protein necessary for proper copper excretion into bile. It is characterised by copper accumulation with hepatic and central nervous system dysfunction. READ MORE
