    Abstract : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis of xyloglucan oligo- and polysaccharides with glycosynthase technology

    Author : Fredrika Gullfot; Harry Brumer; Tuula Teeri; Jerry Ståhlberg; Mats Martinelle; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glycosynthase; xyloglucan; xyloglucan endo-transglycosylase; retaining glycoside hydrolase; xyloglucanase; polysaccharide synthesis; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Enzyme engineering; Enzymteknik; Bioorganical synthesis; Bioorganisk syntes; Biomaterials; Biomaterial;

    Abstract : Xyloglucans are polysaccharides found as storage polymers in seeds and tubers, and as cross-linking glycans in the cell wall of plants. Their structure is complex with intricate branching patterns, which contribute to the physical properties of the polysaccharide including its binding to and interaction with other glycans such as cellulose. 5. 5. Citrus Waste Biorefinery: Process Development, Simulation and Economic Analysis

    Author : Mohammad Pour Bafrani; Mohammad Pourbafrani; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; process simulation; encapsulated yeast; Citrus wastes; economic analysis; computational fluid dynamic simulation; pectin; limonene; methane; ethanol; citrus waste; biorefinery; biogas; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The production of ethanol and other sustainable products including methane, limonene and pectin from citrus wastes (CWs) was studied in the present thesis. In the first part of the work, the CWs were hydrolyzed using enzymes – pectinase, cellulase and β-glucosidase – and the hydrolyzate was fermented using encapsulated yeasts in the presence of the inhibitor compound ‘limonene’.
