1. Procurement Contracts, Innovation and Productivity in the Construction Sector : Five Studies
Abstract : With its size, large number of actors, and its impact on everyday life, the construction sector plays an important role in every nation’s economy and in the improvement of the built environment. The recognition of this fact by the sector, in combination with the reputation for being conservative, problematic, having low productivity growth, and low pressure for change leads to a focus on different strategies that can be used to improve of the sector. 2. Characterization and Functionalization of 2D Overlayers Adsorbed on Transition Metals
Abstract : Two-dimensional layered materials, namely monolayer hexagonal boron nitride and graphene were grown by CVD on various transition metals. The physical and chemical properties of these systems were characterized systematically using synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques, scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction. 3. Titania Nanoscale Films and Surfaces : Surface Science Investigation of Structure and Properties
Abstract : This thesis presents surface science studies, investigating several aspects of titanium dioxide at the atomic scale. The greater part of this work is devoted to the preparation by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of titanium(IV) tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) of ultrathin TiO2 or TiOx films on Au(111). READ MORE

4. Electronic Properties of Metal Oxide Films Studied by Core Level Spectroscopy
Abstract : In this dissertation core level electron spectroscopy has been employed to study various aspects of metal oxide films grown under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Studies on in situ ion insertion of lithium into thin TiO2 systems were performed. READ MORE

5. Surface Reactivity and Electronic Structure of Metal Oxides
Abstract : The foci of this thesis are the metal oxides Cu2O, ZnO and Fe3O4 and their interaction with water and sulfur dioxide (SO2). The intention is to study SO2-induced atmospheric corrosion on a molecular level. All studies are based on photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements.
