  1. 1. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) : prevalence, incidence, decline in lung function and risk factors

    Author : Anne Lindberg; Bo Lundbäck; Rune Lundgren; Lars-Gunnar Larsson; Sven Larsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease; Prevalence; Incidence; Decline in Lung Function; Risk Factors; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : The Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden (OLIN) Studies started in 1985 as an epidemiological project with the aim to detect preventable risk factors for obstructive lung diseases and allergy. In recent years there has been a focus also on obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) besides asthma and allergy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characterization of Aeromonas, Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Bacillus and Lactobacillus spontaneously growing to high numbers in milk, minced meat, fish or cheese

    Author : Anne-Marie Lindberg; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Food Spoilage; Lactobacillus; Bacillus; Pseudomonas; Aeromonas; Enterobacteriaceae; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : The spoilage flora of refrigerated raw and pasteurized milk was classified and identified by numerical phenotypic analysis. Isolations of bacteria were made at a defined spoilage stage, when the total aerobic count was 106-107 cfu per ml. The secondary flora of ripened Swedish and Norwegian cheeses was investigated by numerical analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prevalence and incidence of and risk factors for asthma and exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction in elite endurance athletes

    Author : Tommie Irewall; Nikolai Stenfors; Anne Lindberg; Estelle Naumburg; James Hull; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction; EILO; continuous laryngoscopy during exercise test; CLE; prevalence; risk factors; incidence; athletes; skiers; endurance athletes; Sports Medicine; idrottsmedicin; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Background: Asthma is highly prevalent in endurance athletes, but we lack up-to-date information on the prevalence and incidence of asthma in cross-country skiers. Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) is an important differential diagnosis to exercise-induced asthma, and its symptoms can mimic asthma. READ MORE

  4. 4. Proteolytic imbalance in COPD : epidemiological and clinical aspects

    Author : Robert Linder; Anders Blomberg; Anne Lindberg; Annelie F. Behndig; Arne Egesten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Matrix metalloproteinases; MMP-9; MMP-12; lung function decline; epidemiology; COPD; OLIN; KOLIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Background: The complete pathologic mechanism behind the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains unclear, but several risk factors have been identified, of which smoking is the most common. Proteolytic imbalance contributes to lung tissue degradation and is related to both smoking and COPD symptoms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cardiovascular aspects on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease : with focus on ischemic ECG abnormalities, QT prolongation and arterial stiffness

    Author : Ulf Nilsson; Anne Lindberg; Anders Blomberg; Bengt Johansson; Christine Brulin; Per Bakke; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease (COPD) is an under-diagnosed disease with a prevalence of approximately 10%, highly dependent on age and smoking habits. Comorbidities are common in COPD and of these, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the most common. READ MORE
