  2. 7. Phagostimulatory dynamics of adenine nucleotides in mosquitoes : advancing a taste-based delivery method for vector control agents

    Author : Matthew Lukenge; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Anopheles gambiae are vectors of major medical importance, incriminated in over half a million lives lost annually. While there has been significant focus on understanding the olfaction mechanisms underlying host-seeking in mosquitoes for the development of odour-based control tools, little is known about the mechanisms underlying gustation in blood feeding, the ultimate behaviour in the change of events leading up to disease transmission. 3. 8. Vγ9Vδ2 T cells - response to P. falciparum-derived phosphoantigens and potential for use in colon cancer immunotherapy

    Author : Chenxiao Liu; Ingela Parmryd; Susanna Cardell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Vγ9Vδ2 T cell is the dominant circulating γδ T cell subset in humans, can expand massively upon malaria infection and are cytotoxic to cancer cells. Vγ9Vδ2 T cells are stimulated by phosphoantigens, primarily isoprenoid pyrophosphates like isopentenyl pyrophosphate and (E)-4-hydroxy-3-methyl-but-2-enyl pyrophosphate (HMBPP). READ MORE

  4. 9. Odour-mediated host preference in mosquitoes: the role of the maxillary palps in host recognition

    Author : Shahid Majeed; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The mechanisms underlying host preference in mosquitoes are ultimately a result of optimal foraging on currently available hosts and historical patterns of host availability. The proximate mechanisms are regulated by available host cues and the nature of the mosquitoes’ responses to these cues. READ MORE

  5. 10. Sample preparation and analysis of metabolites from plants in the families of Cyperaceae, Poaceae and Apiaceae

    Author : Linus Svenberg; Åsa Emmer; Jenny Lindh; Margareta Sandahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gas chromatography; Mass spectrometry; Ultrasound assisted extraction; Solid-phase microextraction; Volatile compounds; Allelopathy; Bioassay; Gaskromatografi; Masspektrometri; Ultraljudsassisterad extraktion; fastfas-mikroextraktion; Flyktiga ämnen; Allelopati; Bioanalys; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : An important aspect of understanding how plants effect their environmentis the study of volatile compounds and how these influence interactions between plants and other living organisms. The study of these secondary metabolites from plants can be used in practical applications, such as behaviour control of insects, and is an important part in the search for novel compounds that can be used to influence the behaviour of disease spreading vectors.
