  1. 21. Serotonin in emotional memory processes : neuropharmacological studies with emphasis on depression

    Author : Therese M Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cognitive dysfunctions are common in neuropsychiatric disorders including Major Depressive Disorder, but are difficult to normalize by antidepressant therapies and contribute to reduced functional improvement. Cognitive impairments include alterations of emotional memory processes that are early targeted by antidepressant therapies, including Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). READ MORE

  2. 22. Cyclic guanosine 3', 5'-monophosphate : studies on synthesis and efflux from hepatocytes, liver slices and cerebellar slices and on serotonin-mediated cGMP synthesis in human platelets

    Author : Marie-Louise Tjörnhammar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The present study established the existence of a carrier mediated transport of 3'5' cGMP from rat liver slices, hepatocytes and cerebellar slices in which the cellular levels of 3'5' cGMP were elevated by application of appropriate stimuli and inhibitors of the 3'5' cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. The carrier is specific for 3'5' cGMP as opposed to 3'5' cAMP. READ MORE

  3. 23. The relationship between overweight and depression in view of genes, environment and their joint influence

    Author : Sofia H. Kanders; Cecilia Åslund; Kent W. Nilsson; Dan Larhammar; Nancy Pedersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : depression; overweight; obesity; plasticity; pharmacogenetics; genetics; antidepressants; breastfeeding; bullying; depression; övervikt; obesitas; plasticitet; farmakogenetik; genetik; antidepressiva läkemedel; mobbning; amning; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Obesity and depression are known to often go hand in hand, but is this due to our genetic heritage, environmental factors or a combination thereof? With a neuroscientific approach, I have investigated the relationship between obesity and depression with the aim of bridging the different levels of research available in order to better understand this complex topic. Using data from a longitudinal cohort with adults, we analysed the genetic contribution to antidepressant response in Study I. 4. 24. Pharmacological and genetic modulation of adult neurogenesis in animal models relevant to neuropsychiatric disorders

    Author : Martin Thor Egeland; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : During the past decade, the modulation of adult neurogenesis has been an intensively studied area of neuroscience due to the implications for understanding of physiological mechanisms in the adult brain and the potential clinical applications for neuropsychiatric disorders. This research has resulted in countless discoveries during a relatively short period of time elucidating mechanistic details about where adult neurogenesis takes place, how the process of neurogenesis occurs and how this process can be regulated at several different steps by, not only endogenous mechanisms which normally maintain a homeostasis of adult neurogenesis, but also by exogenous regulation using genetic and pharmacological modulations to manipulate steps of the process. 5. 25. Finding improved drug strategies for schizophrenia : Preclinical studies on lumateperone and sodium nitroprusside

    Author : Joep Titulaer; Åsa Konradsson-Geuken; Anne-Lie Svensson; Erika Roman; Kent Jardemark; Joshua Beckmann; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder affecting approximately 20 million people worldwide. The disease consists of positive symptoms e.g. hallucinations, negative symptoms such as anhedonia, and cognitive deficits, e. READ MORE
